One minute Fed is saying Murray is "a wonderfully talented player" and now he's just a "good all-rounder." He's trying to make him sound like Radek Stepanek or something. He wishes...

Murray usually struggles when its his first time. First matches against Fed, Nadal, and Djoko. First ATP final, Major and Slams. Hopefully this will be his 2nd slam final and we know what he does in his 2nd attempts....  WINS

In this context, Federer calling Murray an "good all-rounder" is insulting I feel.

Yup, the unknown factor is no longer an issue.

As far as I'm concerned Federer is just making himself look and sound ridiculous with his behaviour towards Andy.

Andy may not win Aus Open, but he's certainly earned the right to a little more respect from Federer, given the amount of times he's beaten him now.  Speaks volumes about him as far as I'm concerned - and I used to like him - but not now.  no
Once again, elly, I agree with you - strange that they all ask Fed & Nadal - Andy himself says he will take it a match at a time and states he remembers last year's 1st round exit only to well. At least he has his feet on the ground no matter the media hype.

Its easy to be gracious when you are always winning.  Your true side often only comes out once you start losing this has obviously happened with Roger Federer.

He is blind to the obvious that Andy has the Measure of him, he needs a good coach that will give him a kick up the a**e and bring him down to earth.   As Andy has proven a good support team works wonders I wonder if Roger still believes he no longer needs a coach as he has such a perfect game.

I've just looked in on the other website and they are carrying an excellent article from Andy which is good reading and shows his common sense attitude towards all the hype. Well done Andy - he cuts it all down to size.  I don't know where it comes from or how we can show it on here - any ideas, Mark, Sir Panda - anybody?? Rolling Eyes

I think this whole polemic is created by the spin the press have put on what Federer says, which effectively is "Any of us 4 are in with a chance" - he might even have said he's surprised that the bookies have chosen one above the other 3 but he's no betting man: the bookies probably only did this because of the volume of betting on Andy...

... Federer is a nice guy, he's very rarely outright negative about anyone, but once you're on tape, anyone can take a pair of scissors (digital these days) to whatever you said, and cut it to make it sound as negative as possible. Fed learned that, and these days he makes it as hard as possible for the editors but still...

... storm in a teacup!
