It worries me too and I thought the same thing, have you been involved with the press before Amy?
#
yes.
but, listen- the fact that i hate the press so much is not so much the content, it the way they go about getting the content of their articles. some of them are so rude, and alot of the time only 20% of the lot are rude to you and give the rest a bad name.
im always polite to the guys that have to do the job of getting the stories. after all, they have a job to do and i have mine to do- it just so happens that this part of my job isnt very nice but i have to learn to deal with it. its a part of my life now and theres nothing i can do to stop it so might as well grin along and bare it coz it aint gonna go away.
no matter how much the press hurt you, you cant show it. thatll just give them another story to write about.
you cant show it in front of them and you have to put on a smiley face even straight after a match when all you want to do it go home and rest. but that doesnt mean that i have to like them on the inside.
if you get me. i dont think i explained that very well... its hard to explain.

There's actually a really good article on this whole situation in the guardian. It seems the guy who's written it seems to be the only one at the whole press conference who's got the RIGHT end of the stick. If you have a listen to it on the BBC website he just seems angry, upset and frustrated at himself and he's taken it out on a group of interfearing guys asking him stupid questions. Check it out at:
http://sport.guardian.co.uk/tennis/story/0,,1688632,00.html
However I do love the article at the beginning of this thread, I think it's funny and trying to take the mick out of something that the author probably knew the British press would pounce on. It should help Everyone to laugh at the wholle think and just look to the next tournament... without expectation of course.

I just got the feeling that the writer 'got it' if you know what I mean. i thought it was pretty insightful.

I agree with you, Lorna. I think that it was a balanced article, and well written.
Let's hope for a few more like that!

I've had some bad experiences with the press before causing me to really dislike them for a while.
However, i have now realised that, as you said Amy, they are doing their job .... it's what they do, and they have to get on with it. They have to sell their newspapers to the british public, and therefore they have to cater for the needs of the majority of the public..... this is why, for example, they have more football than tennis, because the majority of the British public prefer football. Generally they write stuff, to interest and appeal to the public.... because at the end of the day, they have to sell their newspapers and make money
Some people might disagree here, but this is what i have accepted....
