Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

Actually, I wouldn't. I like the way Andy is playing and I believe that Nadal would be an easier match than DelPo; assuming both get to the semis.
Nadal is going for an MRI scan on his injured foot to see if he's fit enough to play in the QF.  If he's not then Mardy Fish will get a w/o to the SF where he could possibly meet Murray ...  Jumping ahead, I know, but could this be turning into yet another fairly easy route for Murray to get to the final of a GS? nervous

Aileen , I was just thinking the same , that would be more than I could have asked for.
Fish is good , yes , and has played well this year , but not on Andys level imo

I'm nervous because his opponent would almost certainly be either Fed or Djoko ...

If you watched the match, I can't understand why you're making such a statement. Nadal was clearly in pain - and didn't you hear the discussions between him, the trainer and the doctor which the microphones picked up?  This wasn't play-acting, something which is totally uncharacteristic of Nadal anyway.

Why not?

Oh I don't really know.  I read some stuff about him and have gone off him a bit that's all. Bet he runs about like a dervish in the QF just as normal. He makes a lot of his injuries.

What stuff exactly? If it is that Lynn Barber article you do realise it's full of ****? The only article to portray Rafa in that light, ever.

He has no history of faking injuries so I'm not sure what you mean. He is energetic and will run from his chair to the baseline on one leg if he must.

I don't know anything about the Lynn Barber article but I agree with top_spin that Nadal has never made an issue of his injuries.  For example, look how he carried on playing, against medical advice incidentally, when his knees had all but packed in - and he certainly didn't go round complaining about them.

I fully expect Nadal to withdraw from the tournament later tomorrow.  We had the benefit that on TV we could clearly hear the discussions between Nadal, the ATP trainer, and the doctor.  He felt something go at the back of his foot, especially when he takes off and needs to put pressure on the heel.  The bone was very sore, and as he says he is off for an MRI scan tomorrow.  The injury was well padded which helped cushion the pain for the duration of the match, but once the anti-inflammatories wear off (he had already taken some, and remember his ankle was already strapped when he came out) and the adrenalin fades he is going to be a lot sorer.  There is no way Nadal is going to play with an injury, he knows the level he needs to reach to beat Murray and then Fed or Nole in a final would be exceptional, at least the same as what was needed in 2008, and certainly more than against Berdych last year.  He will not risk it, or risk the embarrassment of retiring or playing injured which he did against Ferrer in Australia (I still have a lot of respect for Nadal for that, as everyone else would have retired).

Either way it is all good for Murray.  Lopez will probably play well against him, he always seems to up his level on centre court in the big matches, but his game is all wrong for Andy.  Probably a tight first set and then routine from there on, plus he had a long match plus mixed doubles, though in fairness to him he is super-fit.  Whatever happens even if Nadal can play against Murray he will be well off 100%.

Andy has an AMAZING chance of getting through to the final here, but if Nadal goes out the expectation level will go into orbit and hopefully he can handle that.  I feel the barrier for Andy is the semi-final.  If he can just get to the final, then what a great chance.  Even the very subdued Pims brigade might even generate an atmosphere for an Andy final (the atmosphere today during the match was absolutely dreadful IMO).

Its all good, he just needs to believe in himself, focus on the matches, and let destiny unravel.

I came home today, looking forward to seeing Andy's match on the DVR only to find that they did all of the Serena/Bartoli match and only scores of the Murray match.....  I guess that's what I get for living in the States.  Hopefully there will be YouTube of the match, but I really wanted to put the match on a DVD as it was so good.....haha according to Wimbledon radio.  Maybe I will be able to find the complete match somewhere.

Two time champion would be easier than a guy who hasn't made the second week at Wimbledon before this year?

What about mentally, though?  DP must be weaker in that area than Rafa?  Think

I was thinking about Nadal's fitness, more than his tennis or mental toughness.

Whether Nadal plays Fish or not, and I believe he will, the up and coming potential semi-final in the top half of the draw should be very interesting.

On the radio they were saying that Rafa fears he may have broken his foot though I don't see how he could have played the rest of the game if he had? Still it does sound like it might be serious.  There must be a strong chance that Andy gets to a SF against Fish.  And while Fish got the better of him last year, that was then and this is now and Andy is playing so much better.  I dread to think the hype if Andy got to a Wimbledon final, but it does look increasingly possible unless something goes badly wrong.
Anyway folks, it might be time to start dredging up  those fish puns. fish

Can I bring up the Aussie quarter final in 2010? Nadal was playing just fine, but when Murray got to 3-0 in the third set, Nadal pulled the plug.  I've never been comfortable about that one.
