I agree and I find it quite baffling actually. There's far more negativity here than on "neutral" sites. Why?  confused

There were lots of people on this site yesterday who came out and said that Gasquet would win and didnt give Andy a hope. Just hope they are now eating a large dose of humble pie.
Wheres the faith.

Haters gonna hate!

Rafa has no history of it what so ever.
I like Rafa as it happens, he's my second favourite after Andy!

This is the thing - no-one here really dislikes Rafa. In fact, some of us quite like him.

However, while I believe he WAS injured right at the end of the first set, I think he saw the opportunity to make it seem more than it was, get a lengthy MTO and disrupt Del Potro right before the TB. He knew the importance of getting the first set. For him to have looked in so much pain then, to be talking about possibly pulling out of the tournament, then to be fine today and raring to go in the QF - something doesn't add up.

Enough of the incessant fangirling!

I like Rafa, but believe he is under unbelieveable pressure.  The match with DelPo he had to win, he could not withdraw due to injury, nor can he withdraw from any of his matches or he will lose #1, he must get to the finals and win the tournament to stay #1.  Djokovic must get to the semis to have a chance at #1 should Rafa lose.

So come with your A games Andy, may the force be with you along with Mr. Magic!

I do think Rafa was play acting.  He has looked very tired lately
maybe he thought if Del Potro thought that he would have an
easier match. As others have said he was playing mind games.
He was furious when the umpire warned him about wasting time. Whistle Whistle Whistle

The article I read (I think it was maybe someone Barber) just suggested that Nadal is very well managed and everything he says or does is agreed beforehand by a team of minders and control freaks. It also said he wasn't very nice to his girlfriend. Its probably rubbish but personally I've never really liked the way he carries on before and during matches all very pumped up and intimidating, jumping up and down when they do the toss etc.  He's nice in his interviews though and always speaks highly of Andy, if a bit rehearsed.

Shrug Why shouldn't he act like that before and during a match? The whole point about competitive sport is that it's competitive. He's focused and determined, just like the rest of the players out there-just he's better at it than most Smile

I am sure we can imagine the snide comments if Andy snarled, pumped his fists and leapt about like that.  I think Rafa overdoes it a bit thats all but I don't really have a clue what I'm talking about to be honest. If its normal then thats fine - he just seems a bit OTT to me. I'm sure if it bothered the other players someone would have said so by now

The others all have their things, and Rafa gets slagged by commentators etc for his OCD Smile so it's not like he's immune from comments about his behaviour. I just think that if that's what he does to feel ready and involved in the match then that's fine. To turn round what you said, if Murray behaved like that and said that's what he needed to do, wouldn't we defend his actions?

Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

From today's Daily Mail -

Nadal is '100 per cent' for his quarter-final with Mardy Fish today after his injury scare.  The champion had an inflamed tendon in his left ankle after a fall during Monday's win over Juan Martin Del Potro.

But his uncle and coach Toni said, after a seamless practice session yesterday, that Nadal is ready for the match on Court No 1.

‘These things don’t just disappear,’ said Toni. ‘But he has been told by the doctor that he is OK to play. He is 100 per cent.’

He may well have an inflamed tendon, as he called the trainer to remove the strapping, but could that really have anything to do with the other 'injury' under his heel? I don't think so, but I'm no expert, so, if anyone on here with medical experience says otherwise, I'll bow to their superior knowledge. The things that made me suspicious at the time were...1] The timing was perfect......2] The doctor was totally baffled.........3] Ten minutes later, he was leaping around like a ballet dancer. Then of course later, the scan came up negative! Nadal 'is' under a lot of pressure, so I think he was just preparing an 'out' in case he thought Delpo would win! In fact, my feeling was that if he'd lost the tie break, he would have retired shortly after! It's all 'conjecture' though........

Caz - I think you've hit the nail on the head here, and I'm afraid his Uncle Toni is up to the eyeballs in this too.

However much of a Mr Nice Guy he may have been in the past, Nadal has lost any credibility with me now, which is very sad.
