I think this is spot on. I think Jamie's relative lack of experience in the big situations showed as well. I was just watching on TV, but it was like a Davis Cup tie, only more so, if that makes sense. The crowd were just amazing.

I loved the way Andy didn't rebuke or blame Jamie in any sense for the loss. Andy's performance yesterday, both on the court and in the interview, was excellent. I don't know about anyone else, but it feels to me rather like we're watching Andy grow up and develop in front of our very eyes. It's so wonderful to see it.

The thing that struck me about Andy as well yesterday is that I swear he looks taller when he is playing well. I can't say I've noticed it before, maybe I've been too busy screaming and I can't at the moment, so I'm having to watch intently instead, but Andy looked every inch the part. His serving was a sight to behold.

The annoying thing about them going out in the doubles so early is that it will be portrayed as a failure by our media. Do these people know nothing about the sport?

tj the bit I've read in the media has emphasised what a good dubs pair the Austrians are so no recriminations and of course the media is more focused on the cycling where we'd been led to expect that a gold medal was a shoe-in.
Did anyone else notice the wonderful leap for joy Andy made after his winning shot which won the break in the 3rd round? I so love it when he does that as it shows how much it means to him and looks like an expression of sheer joy and exuberance. Such a shame they couldn't capitalise on the break.
And Alis I agree with your remarks about Jamie. I suspect if he had a regular dubs partner and was higher in the rankings so that he had more experience of pressure occasions he'd be less nervous playing with Andy. I also agree that it showed Andy in such a good light. Not a hint of recrimination or disappointment with his brother even though he was clearly disappointed not to win.

I know Bev. Jamie looked tense for much of the time I thought.
And those who have suggested that Andy tanked it deliberately when it was he who was carrying Jamie and so clearly desperately wanted to win, even if it wasn't in his own interests in the singles, are beneath contempt. They clearly don't understand how much his family means to Andy.

Agree with everything above. I only saw the 3rd set but the difference between Andy and Jamie's serving was very marked. Felt terrible for Jamie that he just couldn't hold when it really mattered. Was impressed watching Andy at the net.

I loved Andy at the net sj. He was like a brick wall at times. I so wish he'd draw on those skills more in his singles matches.

I haven't seen Jamie play well for a long time now. He needs to find a permanent doubles partner and stick with him. Wasn't he dropped from the Davis Cup squad ages ago?
Would've liked to see Andy with Marray... Murray and Marray - what a combo... Wink
