Murray and Lendl in shock split

Quote

Andy Murray and coach Ivan Lendl have agreed to end their two-and-a-quarter-year partnership that has spawned two slam successes and an Olympic gold.

The shock split is reported to be mutual and amicable, and the 54-year-old Czech has wished the Scot all the best for the future, while declaring that he wants to ‘pursue other projects’. These are believed to be running his tennis academy and competing on the Seniors Tour.

Murray found a kindred spirit in the dour but likeable Czech, with both failing to convert in their first four slam finals. Lendl put an end to that with Murray’s success in the 2012 US Open and the pair went on to further success at the London Olympics and last year’s Wimbledon.

The Czech no doubt feels he has taken Murray as far as he can, but he will surely prove a tough man to replace.

Murray, who will defend his Miami Masters title in the coming days, said: 'I'm eternally grateful to Ivan for all his hard work over the past two years, the most successful of my career so far. As a team we have learned a lot and it will definitely be a benefit in future. I'll take some time with the team to consider the next steps.”

lol I thought it was a bunch of Djokovic or Federer fans trying to piss in the fountains of Murray fans or something. I wasn't smiling for long, in fact I looked very much like Lendl himself on the bus journey home from college when I found out.

This is the news thread - and I've just got home and seen the news. Very sad it is too.
But it was great while it lasted, thanks Ivan.

Sounds as though Ivan has quite a lot to thank Andy for as well.
