Andy Murray took less than an hour to beat Laurent Bram 6-0 6-0 6-0 bringing Great Britain's Davis Cup encounter with Luxembourg to a tie at 1-1.

Murray's victory over the 27-year-old, who hasn't played professionally in four years, was only the fifth 'triple bagel' by a British player in Davis Cup history.

Earlier in the day James Ward lost the first match to Gilles Muller 6-3 7-6 (7-4) 6-1.

Murray will partner his brother Jamie on Saturday for the doubles tie.

Ward will beat Bram, or anyone else in the Luxembourg team (not including Muller).

2nd row from the back, across from the umpire etc, in line of where team GB were sitting. Got the same seat for tomorrow and Sunday. Smile

Aww poor Bram. That was tough to watch. We took my very excited 4 year old niece to see Andy. She loves him to bits. It was tough explaining to her that she couldn't shout out during play.  She likes to shout at the TV when Andy is on. I made the mistake of telling her that 'Andy Murray was in a hurry'. Unfortunately, for the people around us she decided to make that her chant.  A little disappointed with the match as my brother was watching Andy for the first time live. He thought he was great but it was very clear that he was barely in 1st gear.

We were in block D. The block behind the fans from am.com.

Andy may only have been operating in 1st gear, but he showed Bram no mercy - which, of course, I was pleased about from Andy's point of view - but I did feel rather sorry for him.  Being bageled in tournaments isn't funny.  I was once double bageled in one, playing the reigning champion in the first round Rolling Eyes, and at the end of the first set all I wanted to do was go home!  Also it can't have been very entertaining for the crowd watching such a one-sided match.  Hopefully he'll fare a little better against Ward, although I certainly expect Ward to win.

It's quite an appropriate chant though when you saw how quickly the match went.

Not seen the match yet as I was out last night so put it on record.  Hope those of you who were there didn't feel you didn't get your money's worth - 50 mins for a 5 setter must be something of a record?!
Where are you in relation to the umpire's chair Iris?
Funny piece by Kevin Mitchell in today's Guardian which I'll now try and find and post.

Brilliant, Ruthie.  Certainly better than another two that I read.  I really liked this bit though -

Murray ... conceded only 15 points and the way in which he refused to take his foot off Bram's neck confirmed that the inner Murray is a bit of a tiger.

Is it too much to hope that Andy will try to keep this particular tiger in his tank?

Glad you enjoyed it Aileen.
Yes and give me Tiger Andy any day over 'tiger' Tim who if he ever found his inner tiger certainly didn't keep it in his tank. Whistle
