Murray appoints Lendl as new coach

We all know that Andy is a very cautious person ,so i believe he has thought long and hard before bringing lendl in to his camp.he must have talked with alot of people befire agreeing to this move.
So glad he won his doubles with marco.

One of the other parallels between Murray and Lendl is that they're both badly misunderstood. No one really gets them.

I really liked Lendl. I particularly liked the fact that he regularly thrashed and humiliated McEnroe. They hated each other. Lendl didn't bat an eyelid when he felled McEnroe at the net by driving the ball hard at him.

Here's another classic. McEnroe had positioned himself way behind the baseline after a series of booming serves from Lendl. Here's what happened next:

Here's where he fires right at Mac:

That's something that neither Andy or the other big three have ever done, to my knowledge. I don't believe that Andy would rersort to such clinical play a-la-Lendl

Thanks GC -  really good to see those clips again.  Lendl really got under Mc's skin.

I agree with you - he was very misunderstood - as Andy is.  He also has a very dry sense of humour - hopefully, they should get on well.

Yeah, it was a cut-throat era. Mac was at war with Lendl and the establishment, Lendl was at war with his own inner demons, and Connors was simply at war with the world. It's all a bit too nicey-nicey at the mo. And possibly not all that sincere, either.

Yep, easy as it was to admire Mac's game, he was an utter jumped-up ass**** and an outright cheat. You could see in Lendl's face after that shot how little sympathy he had for him.

Oh, I meant the one where he felled McEnroe, but he probably pulled a similar face after the drop serve.

I feel like I've suddenly been transported back to the golden era of tennis (sort of 1975-1990) that first got me into the game. To have it all tied up with Murray as well... heck, I'm in tennis heaven right now.

Think I'll spend the day on YouTube.

It really does bring back that era.  The rivalries were fierce and no-one pretended that they were best pals with the opposition.  I'm sure that didn't mean that they were all at war and it would appear that most of them have settled their differences now.  Nowadays everyone is supposed to be on great terms - I just don't believe it.  I'm sure some of them get on but Federer and Murray - I don't think so!!

The only time I can remember Andy going for an opponents body was with Roddick in San Jose semi (2006 I think)

Got quite heated and was very much tit for tat and they kissed and made up soon after.

Why would Tim comment? He will be wheeled in the summer for the beeb and then return to his golf.
