Does Boogers ever have anything good about Andy. I cannot understand why he is on MW he is always so negative. If that is the way he feels he should not bother. I think we could all do with less negativity on MW he seem to take a delight in rubbishing Andy.

Read his article on the AO Final...

If Andy has that sciatic niggle again, and I don't know just suspect something, that could account for the poor serving.
The thing is that we've never heard any more about the problem.  Andy did say he would get it properly sorted at the end of the season, but I can't for the life of me see how he could have had time to get that done if some sort of procedure was involved, given that immediately after the WTF he was in Edinburgh for a day at a family tennis event, then went off on holiday with Kim, then onto Miami.

Maybe that tweak in his hip is still giving him a bit of trouble?

Something like that. Found the match rather soporific, which made it difficult to inject much excitement into the report.
Soporific?  Well I suppose you could say that.  It certainly wasn't the most exciting match I've ever watched but it was still nail-biting at times.  What caused me most concern though was that it took Andy what seemed like forever to close the match out.  (What was it - 6 MPs?)

Thanks Linda for finding that interview clip, where I failed.
Thanks from me too, although I do wish they wouldn't interview players before they've had time to get their breath back!

Maybe a result of Phil's own disappointment at Andy's, at times mediocre performance?

TJ much prefer it if Boogers keeps it concise and to the point.  I agree that it's good that Andy seems calmer these days.  As he himself said it was good that he managed to break back immediately each time Cilic broke him.  I just wish he could sort his serve out.

If Andy has that sciatic niggle again, and I don't know just suspect something, that could account for the poor serving.    He is so much calmer now and doesn't go in for the body clutching he once did but I noticed in the Cilic match he almost did but changed it into bending down to retie his shoe.

Boogers did what he had to, same as Andy has done what he's had to to win his matches here, including this one.

I am sure. wink

Has there ever been a more concise headline for a match report? No one could accuse our Boogers of gilding the lily could they?

Ah well, that was easily the most predictable of all Andy's matches so far. I'd almost be inclined to feel sorry for Cilic if I could warm to him, but I can't, so there it is. To his credit he put up a fight this time, and it must have been tough. I don't believe for a second that Cilic wouldn't have walked out on to that court without thoughts of his USO implosion in his mind.

The result was tighter than it looks on paper, but hey-ho. Andy won, that's all that matters. I didn't think the result was ever in much doubt to be honest, because he was playing Cilic, who always seems to try it on before going away. Andy keeps calmer under threat these days, and he finds another gear when he needs it, like all the top players do.

Onwards and upwards Andy!

You have to win rugged to achieve I say.

Agreed! But occasionally it would be nice to witness SMOOTH.

Wouldn't describe the victory as smooth. Win - yes

Cilic played about as well as he can.  Sure, he was a bit unlucky not to get back on serve in the 2nd Set but then he was lucky not to be 4-0 down in the 1st which would have set up the match differently.  He was lucky to convert his first 2 break points.

Is Tommy Haas the only player actually playing well this week? None of the other quarter-finalists have been in particularly good form. Gasquet quietly going about his business under the radar, will be interesting to see if he can damage Berdych later.
I didnt stay up to watch it, but I see Berdy is history, well beaten by Richard. Smile

I would have appreciated a more descriptive match summary from Phil, who writes some blindering reports at times, but this was one was a bit too concise.
Maybe a result of Phil's own disappointment at Andy's, at times mediocre performance?
I'm not looking for false praise to be dished to either player and I can tolerate critical opinions of Andy's performances, illustrating for instance that Andy won only 6/18 break points, to Cilic's 3/8.

Anyway, onwards we go to the Semi's!!  yay yay
