Andy Murray's slump of form got worse today in Monte Carlo during a 6-2 6-1 defeat to German Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Murray opened up the match promisingly, holding serve to love, but from then on he went rapidly downhill. He seemed unable to do anything well or effectively. Not a single shot functioned anywhere near its capability and he was fortunate to get another game towards the end of the first set, and one at the beginning of the second.

In less than an hour Murray left the court to boos and whistles, and deserved it as well. It seems that Murray has forgotten how to play tennis.

Fans discussing the news on the MurraysWorld discussion board were disappointed and concerned by the result:

Aileen said: "I feel like crying in total despair - hearing our No. 1 being booed by the crowd is just awful. "

Boogers added: "Much more of this and he won't be fighting to stay in the top four, he'll be fighting to stay in the top ten."

Murray's comments
I wasn't very good today.

It was the first time in a few years that the court felt so small.

I just could not find the court. When it's like that, it's difficult to play.

I tried different things. I tried serve and volleying a couple of times. I tried hitting some high balls. It did not really make a whole lot of difference.

It's sad to see any top athlete lose his mojo .... he'll get it back (with the right help!).

Yeah, he'll get it back eventually... I think the latest he'll find his form is at Wimbledon but hopefully the French Open will do it for him.

Is that your intuition speaking?

And of course I disagree ..... a bit later I think -  he'll be fine by the time Flushing Meadows appears on the horizon ...

Not this time... I think a Grand Slam event will always bring back Murray's form - that's what really motivates him.

Something is deeply wrong atm thats for sure. I saw him play against Robin Haase in Rotterdam in 2008. I thought that was bad. This was much worse.

I think the AO loss has hit him harder than we think. Perhaps for the first time he is doubting whether he has the game to win a GS. That can't be doing much for his confidence. The interest seems to have gone altogether. I have never seen anyone who looked like they wanted to get off the court faster. I mean people actually paid to see that. No wonder he got booed. Damn, he even accepted a wildcard and got a bye!

I actually try to avoid a knee jerk reaction as much as I can but this was trully appalling in every sense of the word. He should seriously not bother playing at all if he's gonna play like that, simply out of respect to his opponent if nothing else. Kohli looked almost a bit weary at the end.

I hope he gets his head back sometime soon. Forget grand slams, forget trophies in fact. Think about winning a match!

We all thought the Fish match was the lowest it could go but that was a new low.  Back to back first round exits, in Masters 1000 tournaments is shocking.

At least he's still in the doubles, hopefully he and Rosco can get past the Bryans and Andy will get a bit more match practice on clay, doubles seem more relaxed as well so may do him some good.

^ Good stuff.  I think he's hit the wall, personally and professionly.  Goodness knows why?  Such a pity.

I know I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?
