I haven't watched any of Murray this fortnight, other than the best bits of the Cilic match. I was under the impression from the the comments made by various people, that his game was relatively different and that he had been playing very well. I need clarification, was today's match on a par with the rest of the tournament, because from what I saw today, nothing much has changed, if anything he looked worse...

Today Murray play quite poorly compared to his performance against Nadal.

Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

Andy is very good at moving on quickly. He'll have learnt lessons from this match - particularly how Fed has found a way to beat him (I'm not an expert so won't elaborate on my thinking).
Haven't watched the posted videos, and apologise if I'm repeating something already said, but I've just looked at BBC's CEEFAX tennis page. As well as Fed's comments about younger players boosting his own game, which in a way is a compliment, there is a headline reading "Murray 'hungry' to win first Slam". Andy is reported as saying that he has had this ambition since he started playing in junior GSs, adding "I worked really, really hard to try to do it and give myself the opportunity. So far it's not been good enough but I'm sure one day it will be."
Through choice he's played very little tennis this month. Barring injury, he has plenty of time to work on his game (1st serve particularly), win tournamets and get more confidence. Former coach Brad Gilbert described him in a recent report as "a genius". His career's still a bit in the flowering stage but, with his mental attitude, winning a GS this year or next is a strong possibility. He is, to quote an old Scots' saying, "a bonnie fechter" (a strong fighter).

does anyone think murray will ever have a grand slam title? not so sure now del po beat him first slam in 5 sets andy has lost 6 straight sets in finals against fed he cant seem to raise is level high enough really gutted
He's not going to win one while Federer is around at the top IMO. Federer has 1 final spot nailed down (18 of the last 19 or something like that isn't it? And the 1 he missed would have been a French Open semi final loss to Nadal) so in order to win one, you have to beat Federer and IMO he's not going to do that over 5 sets in a grand slam.
He should have many more opportunities so hopefully he'll break through and win one. I can see him being a bit like Ivanisevic - have a lot of chances and make many semi finals and a few finals, and eventually win 1 or 2 when the top guy doesn't make the final.
He'll certainly win one before we ever win the league again however. Or any trophy for that matter! In fact I think he is very similar to Arsenal. All the tools and the talent are there and we'll both regularly thrash the weak opponents, but when it comes to the big moments (semi finals, finals, must win games in terms of the title) against the title competitors, we'll crumble and get thrashed.

Need for Andy to perfect his serve and play his serve and volley game which was not in evidence today. Semi finals are always the best and finals a let down. He will do it in France.

Also agree that seeing Andy so tearfully overcome with emotion will surely get rid of the dour Scot image and win over more hearts and minds.

He'll probably need to get the occasional serve in to do that!

To be a Champion you need to win the hearts and minds of the public however it seems that somebody (coach maybe) has turned you into a Hewitt look alike, roaring and carrying on in a totally non-sportsman like manner!
Coming up against Federer, who plays like the best of all time and behaves in a polite, educated, adult way, was a credit to your abilities and Scottish determination. You did not loose, you came second in the tournament by putting so many other world class players off the stage. Take a deep breath, reassess your goals and tomorrow will be yours. My opening comment is meant to be as positive as the rest of my note!
Cheers

I am an ardent fan of Federer; but that does not mean I will not or I cannot appreciate great tennis when I see it. Andy Murray is undoubtedly one of the finest players in the circuit and on his day he can beat anyone. Watching his final against Federer I thought Andy was too defensive from the very beginning. If only he had played his natural aggressive game the match could have gone the distance. But I am quite sure that 2010 will see Andy win at least one of the remaining three grand slams.

Although I posted during the Hopman Cup, I was determined not to look at this site while the AO was on. Some of you can be so negative towards Andy. Having just read though your posts I can see you are nearly all pleased with Andys efforts. He certainly won Aussies over. He has got very good press over here.
Although I am 62, I own up that I cried. I so wanted Andy to win. If I am to be honest, I think Andys game is excellent but he seemed so nervous and the smug, arrogant idiot down the other end got that straight away and had a field day. I'm sure beating Andy meant so much more to him and I always think "smuggy" deep down knows how good Andy is and in some ways feels threaten by him but while Andy cannot keep his nerves in check "smuggy" knows he is safe.
If only the UK press would shut up about the 74 year drought and stop putting so much pressure on Andy. To win a slam is difficult enough without any additional pressure. They said here that Andy had more journalists following him than any other tennis player including Rafa and "smuggy".
Will Andy win a slam? After the loss at the AO, I don't think this year but I believe he will get many slams, after the first one they will come easily to him.
By the way, how does "smuggy" get such good press? He is so up himself but then so was Tiger Woods and look what happened to him.
