Good stat, and welcome. He'll win a major one day. No doubt about it. All-serverer will be on the receiving end one day.

How nasty can some people be? I feel so sorry for them they must be pitiful and lacking in compassion. I hope some day they will feel the pain that Andy felt today. He did his best no one could ask for more. He will bounce back and I am sure he will have learned a few things. I would like to see these horrible people do better. They are all good armchair critics probably cant even hit a tennis ball. So as a good scottish saying goes GAN BILE YOUR HEAD you nasty nasty people

It's not all that relevant now but I have just spoken to my Swiss friend (lives in Switzerland) who is a mad Federer fan and a very good player in her own right. She had missed the first two sets and came in during the 3rd. She quite honestly could not believe the scoreline when she saw the way that Andy was playing and the fact that he was two sets down. She said that two days ago the swiss press were not all that optimistic about Federers chances of winning. In fact they reported he could quite easily go out in the semis. However, she was full of praise about Andy and I know she meant it. Her comments before going off the phone were,
"I am so sorry that he did not win but don't worry. I and most of my tennis playing friends believe that Andy will win a GS THIS YEAR and will be No.1 next year."
I think she is right and we all have a lot to look forward to.

Give Andy a chance for god sake. He's the best we've ever had. Was Rome built in a day!!! You all support him until he loses then all you do is complain about how he lost. Chin up Andy you do us proud!! )

It's certainly softened him in a lot of people's eyes. You can't help but feel for a person when they show you that much vulnerability. I think the fact he never showed very much emotion off the court really irritated people and made him come off quite cold. Showing the world how much that meant to him has made him easier to relate to.

Deliberately done to win over new fans and raise more money.
The look over to his box whilst crying was to say, 'Told you I didn't need the onions, Miles'.

I can see Federer getting the calendar slam this year, as much as the thought of it annoys me. Don't think Nadal will get the French after all the injury trouble he's had, so again it's Federer's to lose. He will of course be the clear favourite at Wimby - just hope Andy can snatch the US, where I think he has his best chance at the remaining 3 slams this year.

Andy played an okay match, but Federer was just too good today.
Andy's 2nd serve was way up on what it was at US Open 2008, by 10mph on average.
I'm sure the way Andy played today would defeat everyone outside the top half-dozen in straight sets, but Federer and Nadal are a different level up and Andy needed to play out of his skin to win.
Andy's game is improving bit by bit and it was a shame he was nervous and tentative early on. I'd suspect if given half a chance now, he'd have elected to serve rather than receive.
Federer won the mind games battle, perhaps that's an aspect that can be improved in Andy's game. It's not part of the spirit of the game but imposing yourself mentally on your opponent does work and Federer is a past master at it, and still is.

I was too nervous to enjoy it. Watching the match was like being diagnosed with a terminal illness. At first there was anger, then acceptance, etc.
No idea how he lost that 3rd set, though.
Roger woke up from his nap!!!
