Watched first set live....Amazing stuff. Just watched rest of match and it was Ok, Gicquel did raise his level of play though. I can't complain about Andy's tactics he is going after his shots and coming to the net I also like the way this year he is playing his own game.
Last year rather than playing his game he would spend 5-6 games feeling out the oppenants game and then altering his tactics accordingly, wasting time not putting pressure on his oppenents early which is key Vs lower ranked players. Injured? Heartbroken? or whatever he was at the US open I think had he got 1st set from Cililc which he easily could have it would have been a different story.

Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

First two sets were little more than an excellent workout for Andy when he could freely use his wide variety of shots. Glad Gicquel came to life in the third to bring in the competition he needs right now. Serve could still improve, and once again small lapses in concentration were worrying. Well deserved win though. Just keep going Andy!

On his day, Monfils is immense.
Even so, Andy has to be on a off day for Monfils to win.

Loving the support he seems to be getting down there. That atmosphere was electric by the end of the match.
If they keep that up it'll really help him raise his level. Crowd can often carry him.

Good performance i thought, hit the ball hard, i don't know what mats wilander saw in it that made him rip into murray like he did in 'game, set, and, mats', - The guy pisses me off.

Would love another match-up with Nadal. The atmosphere would be bananas.

Oh yeah! Although I think it was that little bit better out on court 2. Bit more relaxed.

Yeh pretty much, saying how ' not everyone is marc gicquel' and he'l 'never beat federer just pushing like that' , (probably not the exact quotes) - But like i say i thought he did everything right today, they do it every year on eurosport, really rip into him, annabel croft just sits there and takes it, if it's not wilander it's stich the pri*k.

Eurosport are not very good, but they do show a few more matches than BBC on the red button, although John Lloyd etc are preferable imo. We enjoyed the del Potro James Blake match too and later the young 17 year old Aussie battling with Clilc who finally won in the fifth set. There's so much top competition for Andy to wrestle with at the moment. Even those that have been on the curcuit for many years, such as Davydenko, who has never won a GS, are possible winners for this GS, so he has a long way to go.

Can someone enlighten me on who this guy is and what he's done that's so bloody fantastic for him to criticise?

He was world number 1 for a time in the 1980s. He won the French Open 3 times; the Australian Open 3 times and also the US Open once.
