syc23 totally agree with you.I'm sure by Friday Andy's serve will be firing, he'll earn cheap points and be sending Nole all over the court and stopping him from using his strong weapons, a bit like Cincinatti when in  the end Nole handed in the towel citing a shouder injury, this time he can say he couldn't breathe and his hamstring was causing him problems.

Thanks for the report Nigel, I haven't seen his match yet therefore I got a good idea what went on from your post.  Well said syc23 I look forward to more of your posts with your insight into the changes in Andy's game.  Looking forward to Friday against Djokovic I'm sure Andy will continue to enthrall us.  Onwards and upwards Andy!

I play 2-3 days per week competitively at club level and there are times you can serve on a dime and some days MISFIRE big time, or it may be the BH breaking down but you're serving like a demon. It happens.

The big positive is that Andy is going for winners so much more on break points than letting the rally be dictated by his opponent or wait for errors. He is adding variety into his serves with the kicker on the Ad court and slider on the Deuce court rather than going for the flat bomb and then timidly sending a weak and short 2nd serve for them to attack.

The new serving strategy may take a wee while to embed to his play but  the more he uses this tactic, the more natural it will be throughout the course of 2012. This along with a new sense of calm (he is even congratulating opponent's winners than scream) is a great positive. Mats Wilander may have been critical of Andy in the past, but he is giving credit where it is due as Andy has been making great strides so far in 2012.

It's all about getting the W. Just 2 more and MW will have to change the banner art with a pic of Andy holding aloft a slam trophy Wink

What you say is true but it is the "next two" which will count, and they ain't no pushovers no matter who wins'em. Andy's looking good for it, gotta admit that!

Andy is looking very good for it.

Lendl will help enormously such a great asset for Murray.  I met him in Hong Kong when I was working at the various events he attended.  A very strong determined man, he knows Andy has the game and he will be the asset to get Andy to win  salem.

Come Andy show waht you can do.  Good Luck

Talking of rising sons - I hope Lendl requests, nay insists, that Andy lay off the hot dogs - and maybe Kim might have a quiet word in his ear as well. Very Happy

When Murray tried a similar trick a handful of points later [after Nishikori did one], he almost put the very future of British tennis in jeopardy. As he chased after a smash, he tried a tweener in mid-air, missed the tennis ball and almost did himself a terrible mischief with the follow-through. Team Murray winced in unison. When the slow motion replay was played back on the big screens, those of a nervous and sensitive disposition had to avert their gaze. And Muzz lost the point to boot.

Seriously though, preserving his manhood is one thing, but these shots can leave a player seriously off-balance, as Andy demonstrated in the Llodra match.  If other players wish to do them, then that's fine, but Andy would do well to steer clear of them.  He picks up enough injuries as it is without actually inviting them.

Just getting a chance to say, good for you Andy, through to the semi-final & all the best for it!

Loved the Lendl interview.  He speaks so well of Andy, sees what we see! & doesn't give anything away. Looks like a great match.

Wasn't able to watch the match and not watched the highlights yet. Also I'm not a tennis player myself.  But surely if there was a problem with his neck, as there was, this would affect the serve?  Which is why I'm hoping his physio has got it sorted now.

I got up for work this morning and got to see the final moments of the Nadal/Federer match and all I could think was wow a really long match.  They both looked tired and at one moment Rafa stopped reached down and felt the front of his ankle, like he was checking it out, then he went on to win the match.

I wish I could be a mouse in a corner and hear how Lendl prepares Andy for his next match.  How does one take the nerves away from a player and give them the confidence they need to go out and play their best.

Meanwhile, I wish someone would take away the nerves I feel.  I want so badly for Andy to succeed this weekend.  I'm sure many of you have the same feelings. nervous

IYes, I have the same feelings. I think he will. Lendl is there, he has not had anyone in his corner, he respects Llendl and Lendl respects him ,a great partnership.  Andy will win a grand salem this year under Lendl, may be not in Australia but in the year, who knows. Andy might surprise us all. i hope so.
