Dialogue today between Lloyd and Castle to the effect that Murray fans are expecting too much; that he doesn't have to play perfect tennis in the early rounds; that he shouldn't have to play perfect tennis in the early rounds; that of course he will play better when he has to ......

Murray fans? We're not the idiots piling pressure on him. Has a sportsman ever been under so much pressure?

Apart from the bit about the Murray fans, all the rest is right.

His no-3 in the world, naturally there is a lot of pressure on him and it is justified.

I imagine Henman was under as much pressure, wasn't he?

I doubt it, with Tim people hoped but they probably didn't believe, it's different now.

Well, it would have to be the Murray fans who have the expectations wouldn't it ...... I would think the non Murray fans couldn't care less .........

Don't you think that there was more belief for Henman at the outset rather than at the end when belief turned into hope .....

We're talking about the media who have a job. They are not necessarily fans.

And Tim was never under this much pressure.

No one believed he was going to beat the likes of Sampras.

I didn't get the impression that Lloyd & Castle were talking about the media, but you could be right - who knows with commentators, just exactly what is meant at times.  I think they get punch drunk from being locked up in a small space for so long and being forced to say something, even if it is trite/inaccurate.

As for Henman vs Murray and which of them was under the most pressure, how do you measure such a thing?

The meeja must always remain impartial Whistle whilst giving the public their daily dose of love/hate yes

Darn tootin'. Having said that, Castle talks mainly out of his arse-crack and does my nut in every time he opens said hole

You don't. It's just pretty obvious. Murray is the second seed and should beat everyone in his way to the final. Henman was never in that position. The commentators were saying that when it was Henman is more in hope than expectation. They said with Murray it is the reverse. It's expectation more than hope.

Well, it wasn't as obvious to me as it is to you i.e. which segment of the population Lloyd and Castle were referring to - also I didn't hear them make mention of hope vs expectation (most probably because I was channel hopping).  However, on the basis that Murray is the second seed, then, yes, lot's of pressure.
