Andy Murray has elected for match practice this week after receiving a wildcard to the ATP 250 event in Los Angeles.

Murray had been expected to train in Miami before the Masters 1000 events in the build up to the US Open, but instead will have a maximum of four competitive matches in Los Angeles in order to help back up his ranking points total.

Murray, who is making his debut in LA, has a bye into R2, hence a maximum of four matches, and will play Teymuraz Gabashvili or a qualifier.

R1 > Bye
R2 > Teymuraz Gabashvili or a qualifier
QF > Gulbis (expected)
SF > Lopez or Fish (expected)
F > Querrey or Baghdatis (expected)

It should be a good tournament, Agassi and McEnroe are playing a night match for Agassi's Foundation, don't suppose it will be televised though.  I wonder what's up with Djokovic though, the tournament website says he has pulled out due to personal reasons.

Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

^ Didn't Djoko cite "personal reasons" some time last year for which he blamed a slump in his tennis? Think

I'm delighted Andy is playing, not just because of ranking points but because he really needs competitive hard-court match practice to hopefully fire him up for the important "big ones" to come.  His fitness isn't a problem, so three weeks solid training seemed a bit unnecessary to me.  If he can win his first title of 2010 it'll be a great boost for him. cmon yeah

Agreed - I suppose there's no chance of anything being televised? When does it begin - Monday?

Agree with everyone that this is good news - unexpected I have to say.  I don't think it will be televised though in UK?
Oddly enough there doesn't seem to be anything on Andy's own website, which still says that rogers cup is his next tournament.  According to BBC website, Andy is taking ND's place so perhaps he was invited to play by the organisers and decided it would make sense?
If he meets Fish we can resurrect all those fish puns - can't wait to see him give Fish a good battering (in a non-violent way of course!).

Great to see Andy playing again.

Just found out that Andy will have at least 1 week break after the LA tournament prior to the Roger's cup but is followed straight on by the next MS tournament, and then 1 week break before the USO.

I just checked through next Saturday on SKY and nothing is listed for it .... we'll just have to look at it on BET or something similar.

Yes.  Don't know about TV, but I'm peed off to discover that the ATP official live tennis streaming isn't covering it, so unless Eurosport do it, that's that. Frown

Oddly enough there doesn't seem to be anything on Andy's own website.
Guess we're smarter than they are ... Very Happy

I was rehearsing on the bus coming home this afternoon. lol

Will Andy have any break between the end of this LA tournament and the next MS tournament ?
Rogers Cup doesn't start until 7 August.

While I was checking SKY, I also checked Eurosport .... zilch.  Why do you think Eurosport rather than SKY?

Oh, okay.

One thing however ... the fact that he was awarded a WC might mean that none of the TV Schedulers could do anything about cover .... and m-a-y-b-e they might squeeze in cover of the semi and or final if he makes it that far.  They may also show it off tape a week from Monday ................AND, I may be clutching at straws (as tennis starved as I am).
