Murray grinds out win

Quote

Murray has been "grinding" out wins since the AO final. He's not playing particularly well at the moment which i guess is testament to his mental fortitude given the fact that he is still winning.

I have to disagree. I think he's come on leaps and bounds in terms of mental fortitude. I'm not saying it's enough to make him a multiple Champ, but I'm satisfied that he's doing all he can.  That's pretty much all a person can do.

Wrapped up in 2.  Good job, Andy!

Excellent report Luke.

I was a bit disapointed with Andy's overall performance, even though he did win, but, unlike the Tomic match, this one will hopefully have sharpened him up for his encounter with Seppi.  I don't think anyone relishes two consecutive roller-coasters!

Probably better for your nervous system that you missed it.  A classic Murray roller-coaster!

Ooh, I like what Andy can do to my nervous system. Wink
Anyways, more matches to look forward to so not much regrets of missing this match. I liked the match photos though because he looked very pumped up. Sad I missed that.

A bit underwhelming really. Fortunately Gregor had a massive choke in the first set and Andy woke up in the second. Far too defensive too.
But a wins a win. clap

At first, I disliked his passive approach to the match. It always makes me shout at him to play more bravely and show some authority. In he end, his tactics to only hold the ball in play(aka pushing) paid off. Yet, I doubt if you can always rely on the opponent's making errors. The choke when Dimitrov served for the set was not predictable nor really forced by Andy.

I do not really worry unless he is close to losing the 2nd set as it seems to often be like this throughout his career.  That just seems to be Andy.  I think he has always been a slow starter in tournaments but always seem to manage a win.  After all he did this in two sets.

Thanks for the report MH.

Lovely big smile at the beginning of this, but it doesn't it show us why

Also
"He was taking the ball early very aggressively and hitting very clean at the beginning of the match and I had to weather the storm a bit," said Murray.
"If you don't feel like you are playing at your best, you don't go for the lines, you just try to keep a good depth and hit the ball mainly crosscourt and make your opponent have to beat you. I did that in the first set."
