I know it was three titles but two bit is a reference to the level of the fields he was playing Novak wasn't there Roger wasn't there! Sure he beat Rafa but the Spaniard was injured he lost to florian Mayer a week later!'

This is a big tournament for the big boys anything less than brilliant play won't do! No amount of two bit titles in Asia when then worlds best are not present will give one the confidence that they can succeed on the biggest stage.

Right, so now we know that Andy's got a groin injury (which he picked up in practice last week) and he's deciding tomorrow if he will pull out or not...

Sweet words of common sense. From the success of Bankhok, Tokyo and Shangai, he went onto Basle and Paris where he somehow acquired this leg injury which, if the sciatic nerve is affected, it can prove very painful. He was still suffering a little when he went on court today in the year-end competition he so wanted to do well in in front of a home crowd. That alone put on mental pressure and his injury was not cured just under control. Ferrer is a ferret, a super, sportsmanlike tennis player who has so much class. With all these things he was nervous and then a movement tweaked the leg injury and he was in pain on certain movements and suddenly his dream to do well here was in jeopardy. Some people can cope well with situations such as this, some can't. For some, those perhaps with a strong emotional sensitivity they haven't quite learnt to control, this will affect the outcome of  their game, however much skill they put into that game, emotionally and mentally it is affected. Confidence of course plays a tremendous part. Andy's injury caused an inability to move as he is accustomed to move and this in turn affected his confidence. As the game went on and Ferrer gained in confidence so Andy lost more and more of his. This loss will affect him as in the AO this year but he may have learned how to cope with it better and it may not be so deep. We all say it is a mental thing with Andy's game and it may be he needs a bit of help but it may just be that he is someone whose maturity takes longer to reach - he is getting there - let's hope that further injury doesn't make it worse. The media of course will have a field day, a camera went before him as he walked to his dressing room, he took no notice of them - he needed a bolt hole. I hope if his injury is present that he withdraws from the tourney rather than struggle against Novak and Berdych. 2012 is another year and is just a few weeks away. I for one will remember his triumph in the Far East - No.3 can wait until next year too. Let the smug man have it back, Andy - you'll send him packing soon enough.

I would agree with that too often players are injured and not able to perform as they ca.  Some serious redesign of the calendar year is required.

Janscribe great post how can people be writing off his chances of future success he has an injury and I would not want to see him risk long term injury just to satisfy the media and the crowds at the O2 who seem to be predominantly RF fans anyway!!!!  This should not detract from his achievments this season dissapointing yes end of the world no.  Andy has always said 24 to 26 would be when he would play his best tennis well we are newly into that time frame.  If this was RF that was perhaps needing to pull out of this torny the media would be holding a minute's silence why does Andy get such a hard time and negative response?

Murraymagic the reason for that is Roger is a 16 time grand slam champion and the greatest player ever so obviously any tournament will be devastated to lose an all time great Murray is a very good player but a very good non slam winner is by no means indispenspnle we have had many in the past and will have many more in the future.

As Roger said he wasn't bothered about Murray pulling out i Basel as he never saw him as a potential opponent anyway but the tournament organisers would be furioius at getting the run around regarding the wild card
