Yeah that's true. 1st slam after his surgery...guess I`m just disappointed like everyone else (or most others) on here Id hoped he would be 100% match fit but I don`t suppose you really know exactly how you are until you are a few matches into a tournament and are tested.

welcome pps - I never really believed he'd be sufficiently match fit to win AO so soon after surgery so my disappointment was much more shortlived than usual after a slam defeat.  The important thing is that it does seem that the op was successful and he has been able to get back to playing matches sooner than some feared.  Fingers crossed once he is back to full match fitness he'll be playing with a freedom that wasn't possible so long as some of his shots were compromised by his back.

Ruthie, you are right, I`m sure the op will make a big difference in the longer term.He did exceptionally well getting as far as he did in this one but seeing how well he was doing I guess I just allowed myself too much optimism.

I know pps I think we were all allowing ourselves to hope against all the odds.  While it's a bonus to see him playing DC, I just hope it doesn't prove a setback having to fly straight to the US and then play on clay, his least successful surface and the one which did for his back in the past.

Ruthie testing times ahead and like you say on his least favourite surface...think I maybe hiding behind the sofa!
