Murray: Crowd can inspire victory
ANDY MURRAY is urging Scotland’s tennis fans to be in full voice in the Braehead Arena when Great Britain meet Serbia & Montenegro next month.
He returns home ahead of schedule from Miami after falling in the first round of the Nasdaq-100 Open.
Rest will be in order over the next week, after a tough schedule during the US hardcourt season, before Murray, 18, joins up with his team-mates in Glasgow ahead of the match on the weekend of April 7th-9th.
He said: “The last time I went to Braehead, I went to watch the boxing and everybody was chanting my name. I don’t know how much the fans will know about tennis, so that could help in our favour if they’re a little bit unfair to the other team.”
Taking an early flight home was not on Murray’s agenda, neither was suffering an ankle injury during his first round defeat to Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka. But the British number one is confident of being fit.
Greg Rusedski made up for the early elimination of Murray by coasting into the second round in Miami at the expense of Russian Mikhail Youzhny. Rusedski scr**** his way through the first 6-3, before he steamrollered the second 6-1.
