Rosol is giving Melzer a run for his money.. Thats good!
I dont care for for Melzers personality..but thats my problem, as he plays a mean game at times.

Good luck Rosol.  He's very plucky!

Glad that Andy won through in the end - yeah, 3 more games and I would have seen it for myself Rolling Eyes It was very windy at times and Andy does struggle at times with it but I'll take a scrappy ugly win anyday. cmon yeah

Good report Nigel.

I see that Nadal won his match with a similar score. Doggy up in his match but Melzer down in his.

Faces 1 player inside the top 30 to get to the semis. His draw was a doddle even before it opened up wildly like it has done.

Nigel - tu es vraiment un génie avec des mots ...! lol

This is what Murray tweeted 4 hours ago - "So happy to get through today in brutal conditions, look out for some upsets today there's going to be a few if wind stays like this".

It was an ugly match and he didn't exactly come out firing on all cylinders, but playing in what was at times almost a dust-storm is hard for any player to deal with.  The main thing is that he won, even if he nearly gave his fans heart-failure in the 3rd, and to his credit he did manage to maintain his composure most of the time in these very testing conditions.

I was distinctly unimpressed by Nigel's writing and analysis, and the sycophantic replies make me laugh.  The results today tell the whole story, with all the seeded players going out.  Andy dodged a bullet, and we should be delighted about that.  Performance level at this stage is almost irrelevant. In a similar position at RG in previous years he has become downbeat and lost the plot completely.  Berdych last year was a classic example of that.  His demeanour on court thus far is much better.  He knuckled down and ground it out in difficult conditions.  The draw has opened up further with the departure of Melzer.  If Andy can't make the SF here now, there is no hope for him really as a clay contender.

Ok, so it wasn't a great match, but Bollelli did very well I thought, and Andy fought back well in the first and then the final set.  Anyone who thinks he is going to waltz through all the rounds with sparkling tennis living in a fantasy land. Today was a good workout and very promising I think.  Andy in previous years would DEFINITELY have lost a set today, and probably the match.  To say he made a "Spag bol" of it is to miss the point completely.  And as for re-assessing his tactics, absolute nonsense.  Did the job well in conditions where it was hard to really hit through the court.  Next round will be much easier.

A very enjoyable match report Nigel from someone who hasn't seen the match - though hope they'll show at least some of it tonight.
Any fellow night-owls interested, BBC2 are showing an hour of highlights at 12.20 am.

I did watch the match, but had to write the report as the match was going on, as I had no time afterwards. I admit it sounds too negative and I actually thought it was a gutsy win. Had I written it up after the last ball was struck, the report would have reflected that.

A bit negative, although some of the cheesy lines did make me laugh! I am sure he will play better next round.  Was interested by one of his tweets about the french girl Garcia.  I never saw the match with Sharapova.  Did she look like a future number one as Andy seems to think?  In fairness to him he did tweet before the match, and she ran the sexy grunter pretty close.
