I'm sorry but I'm with Caujolle on this one. Andy's attitude towards 250's over the past year has been pretty bad. I think he pulled out of Valencia that year too citing a very dubious injury as well.

You've gotta ask yourself, is he really fatigued after playing one tournament in the season?! It's already been heavily publicised that he had toned down his fitness regime in the off season, and he only dropped one set en route to the final. It's been THREE weeks since that final. Sorry, but fatigue is a shitty excuse, and he knows it.

There's absolutely no way you'll see him dropping out of any events round the American HC season.

It devalues the event massively and it shows a lack of respect imo.

ATP have backed Murray,

We understand a situation like this can be frustrating for a tournament but, in this case, Andy followed the procedures for withdrawal and did not break any rules.

It's not a case of him being too tired to play. It's a case of managing his schedule. There's a busy period coming up.

Yeah, it's fairly full on once Dubai starts. No real chance of anything more than a two week rest until after Wimbledon.

Bit of a mess but it's his career and his schedule.

One tournamount or not, if andy says he needs an extra week to rest, then im sure thats the case. Hes very commited to his tournaments, maybe less so the 250's but its better to drop one of those now then drop a 500 later, or perform badly in a GS or masters. This may not only be for fatigue, it might be to prepare himself mentally as well, he did afterall just come in grasp of a grandslam and then had that taken away from him, mentally that might mess with him for awhile. With the right training he will be in the right state of mind for the next batch of tournamounts coming up and hopefully will do very well in the FO.

Federer has been doing the same thing year after year, I don't see anyone having a go at him for it.

Aww don't get me started, she was so mean about Dinara Safina... They've changed the rules now I think, so they have to play some smaller events, Venus is in Dubai, don't know about Serena...

I'm with the atp,  we can all speculate but players shouldnt be used as cash cows either! I can imagine alot of people would be disappointed but nevertheless if a player is knackered and hasnt been home since november I think he's well within his rights to pull out.

Exactly, so it's a fake excuse. He shouldn't enter 250's leading up to Dubai, Indian Wells and Miami in the first place. He should be thinking about improving his match time on clay instead, and enter a couple of 250 during the clay season.

Yes it's a scheduling issue. In such case he should have thought about it a little more before he entered Marseille.

Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

Maybe he genuinely thought he would be able to play.  But I still think he could have found a better excuse (eg. his back, which caused him problems during the AO).

Not quite, but in the past they've cherry-picked a lot, and don't forget that last year they pulled out of Indian Wells, now obligatory on the WTA Tour, because they have never played there since 2001 when Serena was subjected, as she claims, to racial abuse, following the controversial withdrawal of Venus, who cited an "injury", only an hour before their semi-final   They escaped a penalty because their father threatened to take legal action against the WTA.  Presumably they'll do the same thing this year with impunity unless the WTA shows some guts.  Seems there's a law for one ... [sorry, just don't get me started on those two, particularly S! grr]

The TD would never of called out Federer or Nadal had they done the same.
