I think if Gilbert was still coaching Murray, we would be seeing a much more aggressive Murray. Let's hope Miles MacLagan will be able to help Andy make the required changes.

Let's hope he takes the criticisms of Stefanki on board - Brad was good for Andy up to a point - Andy's present team has helped him develop and mature and he is definitely a happier person with them. Maybe another chapter is about to begin - he's already firmly placed as No.3 - a few changes in mind set perhaps could send him up further.

Murray couldn't cope with Gilbert - he was too immature.  Macenroe also said that when he had Stefanki he couldn't cope with him - couldn't allow him into his head as he was too immature ........ all a matter of timing .........

I'm not saying Gilbert should have stayed, just pointing out that I think he would have been the coach to really force Andy to play more aggressive.

He couldn't stay - no-one can force a tennis player (or anyone else for that matter) to do something they either don't want to do or are not ready to do ............

I was saying forced as in, getting Andy to do it even if he doesn't agree. You've got to trust your coach knows best.

And Andy was ready, we saw it when he took on Nadal at AO under Gilbert.

Hi Andy,

Well Done, you are doing a fantastic job for British Tennis.
Remember Bjorn Borg?
The top spin lob could have helped during your match with Andy Roddick.

Best Wishes,

Jim

Nope, but he was the first coach to get Murray doing it with success.

I don't know if I'd put it down to him.

As soon as Gilbert had a chance to change things with Murray's game, we saw a much more aggressive player when it was needed.

Coaching aside, was he really 'karting' today? It doesn't sound like a future champion's response to a defeat that should hurt.

He has 5 weeks off, after a pressured month, I think he deserves a week off at the very least.

What's he supposed to do?  Wring his hands and gnash his teeth? Beat himself up with a big stick?   Just because he went 'karting' doesn't mean he wasn't hurting after the defeat.  Life goes on.  He knows he has many more years and chances at this.

Although I have made the point that Andy has been too passive especially after the Australian Open, I don't think that was the case on Friday, he simply didn't make enough 1st serves, nor did he return serve well enough.

You do neither of these two things well enough and you aren't going to win slams, that for me was more fundamental than what he was doing during the rallies.

p.s. after watching the final I have to admit that Andy would not have withstood the pressure situations as well as Roddick did.

Roddick was brilliant today, shame he didn't win.

p.s. Federer and humble = heehee, yeah having 15 stitched to his jacket, dearie me

p.s.2 I'm not sure if there is a technical reason why Andy cannot kick serve more than 90mph but so many other players can do it so why can't he?
