Bye the way folks, where is Boogers (AWOL)? Conspicuous by his absence.
He's actually and genuinely mentally ill.
Oh things are going much too well at present to tempt him out to play.

Perhaps, as in the case of oh so many older commentors on this site, he's thrown in the towel because of the recent quality of dialogue here. Rather than the quality of Andy's game of late. I'm sure he peeks in when his name is mentioned.

Yeah well I threw in the towel after two consecutive night matches.  Couldn't handle another so missed this one! old

Thanks for posting that. Smile

Not much to say about the match except that it was great to see Andy playing so well for the third consecutive time, and that winning this title should greatly boost his confidence going into the AO, as also will having the company of Lendl whose psychological support will be surely be of great benefit.

Also did a good interview with the dreaded Gary Richardson on R5L this morning . I think this link should take you to it:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/16459777.stm
Thanks Ruthie. Smile  I thought the interview was very good, although why on earth rake up the groin strain?  That's ancient history now.  I liked what Andy said about not letting losses affect him.  I'm keeping an open mind about the AO, but I know Andy will give of his best, and I'm optimistic that this year, should things not turn out quite the way Andy and his supporters would like, we won't see the awful post-AO slump that marred his 2010 and 2011 seasons.  Not only has Andy matured a lot but he's under the wing of a coach who really does know what it's all about.   t's certainly encouraging to hear that the two seem to get on so well together.  Long may it continue!

The "Mr Lendl" thing is quite interesting I think.  Many years ago (and those who have been following Andy since the start will remember this) Andy played an exhibition match (1 set) against McEnroe at the Albert Hall.  Andy actually lost, but he made quite an impression on the American who has been a big fan of Andy's ever since, and has made his availability to coach him known on many occasions.  Anyway, one of the things McEnroe said afterwards was how nice it was to see a young guy who was very talented and also very respectful - Andy had referred to him as "Mr McEnroe" at the net and said what a pleasure it was to play him and so on.  I think what you see here is not only the same level of respect, but also a recognition that in Andy's eyes he is dealing with an equal, or a better, something which was not true of Maclagan, Petchey or even Gilbert.  Andy, despite the rather shy and awkward way he comes across, is extremely confident in his own ability, the merits of his own opinion, and has been the leader of team Andy for the last while.  So when Andy refers to Lendl as "Mr" as well as being respectful, I think it is an indication of how the dynamic will change, and all for the better.  Team Andy has a new leader, someone who has won grand slams, who has dealt with the demons of pressure, expectation, and very talented contemporaries, and succeeded nevertheless with a ruthless and quiet determination.

I think Lendl is the biggest thing that could have happened for Andy's career, and I hope that respect continues, as Andy needs that experience around him.  The only other people around who would have been seen in the same way would be Sampras or Agassi, and none of them seem interested in coaching.  Lendl is taking a chance with Andy here, sitting in retirement with his family and tennis academy he had no reason to budge.  I think he sees in Andy someone of immense talent, someone a little like himself, who he can take upwards in his career just as Roche did with him.

Andy's team have pulled of an absolute blinder to get this guy.  Andy needs to take the advice and direction that comes along, for with it come inevitable success I feel.

Well said I totally agree with every word you've written. Only sorry that I didn't write it. I really feel that here we have the final piece of the jigsaw that will be a Grand Slam winner and as Darren Cahill once Andy wins one the floodgates will open. yay

I totally agree with what you have said.  I met Lendl in Hong Kong when I was working on various events Lendl entered.

He is a fantastic peson totally disciplined in all aspects of the game. The most important is the mental side which I think he will help Andy. Also Andy respects Ivan and will not use mental energy in getting annoyed with himself, which has lost vital games before he gets himself together, that will all change.

I think this will be a great year for Andy, good luck to him, very much deserved, he works very hard so did Lendl to achieve his goal. together they will be a great team.
