What pees me off most about this is that he may have the momentum that he'd built up in Asia obliterated. I had high hopes of him pulling off something special at the WTF and carrying the form and confidence on to Australia. I just pray that he can play Paris, otherwise he'll be coming to London without a competitive match for five weeks or so, going straight in against the world's best players.

Oh for goodness sake not that old chestnut again. He had time off after Shanghai and only started any work when he came to Basel. I think his physio and fitness trainer know how much work Andy needs to do. I wish some people would accept such an injury can happen out of the blue, he was fine on Monday after practice etc woke up at 3am with a pain.
I know when I had sciatica I certainly hadn't been training, just woke up one morning and couldn't get out of bed, had to roll to the floor and then get myself on my feet by holding onto a chair and getting on my feet that way.

You are right Michelle. This can happen to anyone, athlete or not. I too had sciatica for years and it only went when I had a baby? Unfortunately not an option for Andy!

Gutted! Logged on to livescores just now to see Chiudinelli against Haase and my heart sank. Crying or Very sad

I wonder how long this will keep him out for. Think

Such a letdown, just as he was looking to build on his momentum.
Same here Joe!
I just got back from a trip to learn of this. Was hoping for a victory and continuation, so what a disappointment, especially with respect to his current form, as you say.

Andy would not let Jamie down if he could have managed to play at all.

What a disappointng thing to happen - this tourney would have given me something else to think about this week apart from a hospital visit for remedial treatment - wasn't looking forward to it too much - but there would have been Andy's matches to look forward to.
Yes Jan, Andy has given us all something to look forward to this autumn. Good luck with your treatment, by the way. You and Andy must get well soon. doctor

He is truly gutted, what a sad laddie in the photos. ESPN on his FB. No personal comment.

"I was struggling to walk," said Murray, the world number three.

Murray, who won three titles in Asia last month, had requested a wildcard to play in an event featuring world number one Novak Djokovic and defending champion Federer.

"I trained twice on Monday and felt fine after that. It was a bit better on Tuesday morning and I went to a pool for some exercises and had a light hit. But this morning [Wednesday] I knew it was still not good enough.

"I don't know how I did it or what it came from. I've never had anything like this before."

Ah, thanks, Bev, so something was not right before Wed. morning. Poor Andy, how disappointing. Something like that can come from out of nowhere. To me it felt like something was just out of whack when I had it, and it took quite a while to get over. Interesting he went swimming as I think that did get mine pulled loose. Stretch out those legs in the water, Andy, along with all your physio treatments.
