Murray pulls out of French Open

You cannot be serious shocking
TBH if I thought Andy could be so devious and the whole medical thing was a fraud, I would stop supporting him.
But I don't.

No, not that the injury is a fraud. But that he knew the injury was going to be an issue for the French before Rome but he entered it anyway always with the intention of retiring. And it's not entirely a deceitful act, more one to keep the beckoning tabloids away accusing the injury of not being serious. That whole thing with retiring at Rome has made the tabloids more sympathetic about it than I think they would have been if he just didn't enter Rome and then the French. Almost a way of saying "Hey, look I'm retiring from this match, this injury is a serious issue; despite what you guys say and were saying last year".

Personally I doubt Andy would enter a tournament with the intention of retiring. Why put himself through playing on clay at all, knowing doing so causes pain, if that was the case? Why spend the time practising on the surface? He'd have been as well to not play on the clay at all, or at least in Rome. Just because Andy retiring in Rome was the right thing to do, it doesn't follow that it was planned.

Agree 100%. Laundry's speculates too much.

Precisely. He has aimed at improving and mastering "clay" and has prepared in the US for the clay season too. It just wouldn't make any sense at all for this to be a scheme.

I believe Andy has integrity.

Yeah, thanks all for the updates.  Sounds like a good decision. Do hope Andy can get his back properly better.  Take care, and get well, Andy!

Can anyone explain why Andy went to Bristol to see a Consultant, seems a fair way to go??????

jp I'm assuming that it must be some very particular form of specialism or that this guy is the best of his kind.

He came for a chat with me. You know, the usual, how he was doing, thoughts on Federer and his draws, that sort of thing.

Or what Ruthie said. But c'mon, what's more likely?

My feelings exactly.  Money is no object so I'd imagine Andy wouldn't settle for anything less than the best no matter how far he had to travel in the UK to get it.

Tim Henman has just been on Radio 2, and he said he had Lunch with Andy last week, and he was asked whether Andy would be fit for Wimbledon, and he said he was pretty sure he would be , he said he was moving Ok  sounded very positive.

That's great news, thanks jillypops. Fingers crossed Andy will be fit. RG has had some good matches, but it hasn't felt right without him. Still, he was right not to play, especially if that time has helped him.

Tim also said that Andy still had to be careful, so I'm not sure how playing in a Slam can be called that!  He said in another radio interview though that he was 'quietly confident' that Andy would play Queens as well.  I really hope he does.  Even if he only plays a couple of matches, and then plays at Hurlingham, that should be a good warm-up for him.

Maybe Tim means that Andy has to be careful at the moment, in training and such.

I'd be quite happy with a match or two at Queen's, just to give him a feel for a match or two before Wimbles. Anything beyond that at Queen's would be an abundance. That said, if Andy does play a match or two at Queen's and no more, if Berdych could just not win it I'd be happy.

Yeah - let's not all expect too much at Queens - 2 or 3 matches will be well enough.  Remember last year when he lost his first match badly. Berdych won't win cos he's crap (sorry, don't like him!)
