Andy Murray last night started preparations for his Davis Cup showdown with Roger Federer writes Charlie Wyett.

The rising British ace, 18, travels to Switzerland next week for the two nations’ World Group play-off clash in Geneva.

But first Jeremy Bates’ team of Murray, Greg Rusedski, David Sherwood and Alan Mackin stopped in Evian, France, yesterday.

Bates has them training on clay — the surface they meet the Swiss on.

Murray said:
We are all looking forward to it. Having a few days on clay will do us some good.

World No 1 Federer tuned up for the tie by beating Andre Agassi in Sunday’s US Open final.
