Murray receives kind draw for Monte Carlo

Quote

After getting thrashed in the Australian Open final, Murray has suffered the worst slump of his career, losing four consecutive matches in straight sets. The Scot will be hoping to end this run at the Monte Carlo Rolex Master and secure his first win since Janurary.

After a first round bye, Murray will meet either Stepanek or Baghdatis in the second round. Should he make it to the semi finals, he will likely meet world number one and all time clay court great Rafael Nadal.

1R: bye
2R : Stepanek/Baghdatis
3R : Simon/Montanes/Bellucci
QF : Monfils/Youzhny
SF : Nadal
F: Federer

His first match looks like it will be pretty difficult.

Bye's probably his hardest opponent before the SF.

I think if he can get a few wins under his belt he'll settle down and could go fairly deep into the tournament. I remember 2008 or 2009, can't remember which, he played Davydenko. The match had a rain delay and when they came back out Andy was really fired up. He questioned a call quite ferociously and Davy's face was a picture, a mixture of bemusement, exasperation and amusement! Andy then met Nadal in the semi , I think and the 2nd set went to a extremely competitive tiebreak. I think his claycourt game could be a lot better if he had gained a lot more experience on this gruelling surface.

Doesn't look kind to me, so agree with the beeb on this one.  Unless you mean kind in the sense that he knows he has to raise his game to play some top players and has played so badly against unknowns.  And it would be wonderful if he did well.  As Patsy says a few wins under his belt could make all the difference, especially against the class players he will be up against.
Greetings to you all from tokyo airport.

Murry had kind draws in America and did not win a match. He'll a face former top 10 player in either Stepanek or Baghdatis, the inform Simon or clay court specialists Montanes or Bellucci in round 3 and if he makes it to that Monfils in the 1/4 finale.

Murray in form is terrible on clay how would an out of form Murray perform. most likely a 3rd round exit.

Don't look like an easy draw to me, even if Andy was in top form!!! Anyone of these guys can beat him.

I agree with the original poster, this is a kind draw for Andy.  None of the players in his quarter of the draw are really on form, and it could potentially be a week where he retrieves a little confidence.  However, I see no point in trying to predict how Andy will perform here.  I just hope he does well and we see an Andy that actually cares on the court.

I was surprised to see his comments on the BBC website re working with Henman.  This would not be a good move!
