Murray saunters past Santiago
« on: April 26, 2012, 02:58 PM »
Andy Murray eased to a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 victory over Santiago Giraldo. The Colombian, currently ranked 54 in the world, is something of a clay court specialist but posed little threat to Murray.
Murray, who broke twice in the first set, played with a pleasing amount of aggression throughout. Pacey forehands, deep returns and the usual variety and consistency prove more than enough to dispatch Giraldo. The second set proved slightly more challenging after a sloppy passage of play saw the Scot surrender a 2-0 lead. This proved to be a minor blip though, as Murray proceeded to race through four consecutive games to seal the match.
Next up is Milos Raonic the fast serving Canadian tyro. Murray is also scheduled to play doubles with his brother later today.

Oh look, no negativity. I wonder if that's due to Murray actually playing well?

Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

Oh you noticed!
Nothing to add about this match except that it was encouraging to see Andy in good form again and conserving energy with a short match. Raonic will be a much more difficult opponent.

Hiraldo didn't know what hit him. Andy was so up for it. In full flight, his game is breathtaking... and when he unleashes that forehand...
Currently watching Rafa having a bit of a fight on his hands with Farah in 2nd set.. but have to go.
Looking forward to Milos/Andy match tomorrow.

A very good match by Andy, and I'm sure he and Ivan will be working on how to play Milos. Andy enjoys playing against big servers, he has always played well against the two big American servers, he uses their pace to hit their serve past them. So I think tomorrows match will be a good one, but I think Andy can win it.

Well done Andy!
And well done Phil for a report that clearly gives credit where it's due!
Rafa is looking as sharp as ever, he beat Farah of course.
Hope the Murrays do well in the dubs.

Not really. Read any online news site and you'll see that MWs headlines fit in with the current trend.

Good report, Phil. Obviously, you're starting to feel you age and hence a POSITIVE report.

Why, that could be it?! Shockingly enough could it be that when Andy plays well there is little to criticize, yet when he plays badly there are genuine points to be made about it? In a news report? Never!

But somehow boogers when you write a positive report one gets the sense you don't write it with such gusto - still must be thankful for small mercies!
Good to see Andy looking pretty comfortable out there and there were a few beauties. Can't watch tomorrow as have to be in Birmingham, which is a pain.
Pleased to see Marcus back and Peter F was on good form today. Andrew Castle was also surprisingly positive about Andy, including defending him against stupid criticisms for what he said in jest about Kim on Frost interview. But even when he's being positive he manages to sound patronising though did have the grace to acknowledge he was just a journey man compared to Andy's heights.
