Andrew Cotter though, wtf is that all about?  Why is a rugby guy now the main commentator for tennis?  Will we all have to suffer this all summer as well during wimby?  I guess it shows the poverty of talent at the BBC I suppose.

Completely ruins the viewing experience for me.

Really? He's a good commentator and unlike the supposed 'tennis' ones he doesn't waffle and name drop and pretend to know more than he does. He gives enough commentary for you to know what's happening without all the crap Lloyd and Castle give.

Haha I actually thinking inwardly debating with the commentators actually adds to the experience. When you're like "I can't believe he said that" or if you really agree with what they're saying.

Cotter is a decent commentator though and they're not abandoning him to do it alone Shrug I like his accent and I'm a fan of his rugby commentary so I'm going to stick up for him Smile

Let's bring back good old Bill McLaren, well at least his recordings. That will show all tennis commentaries how to describe any match, without waffle.

There is one solution to every complaint re the standard of commentating. Watch the match without sound. Your own eyes will better appreciate the maestro know as Andy Murray!

Go on then, why don't you like him? I think he's informative, has coached at a high level, and doesn't tell any waffle stories like Castle does.

Just out of curiosity, is there a sport that Brits know a lot about where the phrase "up to the plate" would be used often? I ask because I noticed it in the article and thought it odd.

Other than that, great write up, thanks!

Alright Davie Broon, long time no see.

Up to the plate, means stepping into the fray, or 'to the fore'

Don't disagree with any of that ... he just needs to be kept away from Murray's matches where he drools constantly and has damp patches appearing all over the front of his trousers.  Bit too much for me.

Anyway, it seems we are a little divided over our Mr Cotter.  The real talking point has to be the Tomic V Nadal match.  This will without question be the evening match on Rod Laver, which means an earlier day for Muzza we would assume, unless they put him last on Hisense Arena.

Does anyone think Tomic could beat Nadal?  It could be really interesting this one.  I would like to see Nadal tested, just to see what level he is really at after his illness, as the first two matches were non-contests really.   It is going to be a great event this one, as Tomic is quite a colourful character, and if you read his comments in the press, a bit cocky as well which I like.
