Phew! Good going Andy. Donskoy played a good game but so glad you got him sorted out. Nice report, Nigel.

Bound to be rusty, as I said elsewhere
We've seen many, many matches that have played out like this and should expect some early ones to be like this.
D. was inspired in the first set and played some spectacular tennis, but I thought Andy played well from the second on and he's got another monkey, albeit a tiny one
, off his back.
Let's Go.

Enjoyed your report. I feel that we need to remember that having lost here for the last two years would have made Andy very nervous, coupled with the fact that his opponent came out all guns firing this meant it would take Andy some time to settle into his game. Andy said that when you haven't seen someone play it takes time to work out their game, and this young man is a smart player who has some very good shots, so I for one thought Andy came through this test very well and he will build on this match and progress through the tournament.

Thankyou for your super report it has cheered me up considerably. I heard a radio commentary on the first set which was painful in the extreme and then I had to wait with growing apprehension for what I thought would be the inevitable result of a Donskoy win. How marvellous then to read your accounts of the other two sets proving that one should never give up hope.

Great match report
I expected Andy to be a bit rusty after 6 weeks of not playing. I'd already anticipated it going 3 sets.
What I think is important for Andy is the manner in which he turned it around. Once he got into his stride he was getting better and better, which has to be a good thing. In the end the first set looked like a relatively minor blip.
It's a bit obvious to say that this is the sort of match Andy could have lost in the past, but it is. In the past I think he could have got frustrated and not given himself a chance. There is none of that now. He kept his head down and got on with the job and was all over the second, and especially the third.
I think this one will put Andy in good stead going forwards this week.

Good report Nigel. Thought Andy was nervous and tight in the first set, as one of the comms said 'Andy's body was in California but his mind was still in Miami'! I never felt he would lose but he had to be patient (which he was) and his game eventually came together. Good to see him play again and looking forward to the next roller coaster.

Funny title.
I thought Donsky played well in set one.
Yes, Andy was a bit rusty but he showed flashes of brilliance in the latter sets.

........ and yet Ms Croft was still commenting on Andy's chuntering to himself and his box. I sometimes think that she and I have been watching different matches!

Oh Andy you don't half make us suffer at times. But there was one game when he played so sweetly that a big grin stole across my face and I remembered then that that is why I so love Andy Murray.
I agree with tj that credit to Andy for turning it round when he was clearly nervous and rusty and he did so with minimum fuss I thought despite what la croft said. And his opponent [whose name we all keep forgetting but who I suspect might start to make a mark] was as bbh said inspired at times. In fact, if I'd been a neutral I'd really have enjoyed that match, As it was I spent some of it remembering just how stressful it can be on that old roller coaster.
But onwards and upwards Andy and good luck in the dubs too.

She must have been I thought he was pretty calm and did not have any outbursts. He did mutter but it was not audible to others. I think he played well on the whole remember he is a bit rusty.

A counter puncher like Andy always fights back.

Did Mrs Croft really say so? I admired Andy for staying relatively calm though there was enough reason for showing dissatisfaction in the first six games. but some people seem to have their opinions which they would not want to change even when Andy has definitely shown signs of progress in his on-court demeanour. Yet, I hope I can still see emotions, be they positive or negative. I cannot stand these players with their poker-faces. so therefore let Mrs Croft complain.

Give me Peter Fleming any time over Croft. He talks intelligent tennis unlike Croft, who perhaps is not able to distinguish one end of a tennis racquet from the other.

Hi everyone , been away for a bit, another nail biting match, but thought Andy did well after the time he has had away. I think he will do well this week,

Glad that Andy made it through. It was tough, but it is obviously better than losing like the previous 2 times.
