Murray thrashes Starace in Rome Masters

Quote

Andy Murray eased into the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters with a 6-2 6-3 win over Potito Starace.

Murray, who showed great determination and spirit, only struggled once in the match when Starace redressed an earlier Murray break to level the second set at 3-3.

I thought I moved very well tonight, and I won a lot of points on long rallies where I probably shouldn't have, and at important moments

The Scot now plays German Florian Mayer in the the last eight of the Rome Masters.

There sure were.  As Andy himself said he won a number of points he really shouldn't have.  The comms said he thieved them.  And there are people who say Andy plays boring tennis.  It was enthralling and such fun. Oh why can't it always be like that?!
Keep it up Andy. yay   cmon yeah clap clap:

Much much better today.  Seemed a lot more like the form he hinted at in Monte Carlo.  He really could do with 2 more matches before RG.  I would love to see him play Nole.

Apparently the next match is 11am (our time) tomorrow. Doesn't give Andy much time between matches.  At least this one was pretty quick but he did have to do quite a lot of running.  What time did Mayer play today?

That match was like the Murray of old where he won points out of nothing time and time again.  Completely different performance to last Thursdays round 3 match. He needs to keep it up against Mayer tomorrow though.  Excellent stuff.

I'm a bit behind.  Just in to see he won convincingly.  Good stuff!

Congratulations Andy, now just maintain this level for the match against Meyer and for all MW members who've posted here about his prospects at RG, lets all slow down and take it one match at a time. Is he back? I think its too early to say ask me this question again after RG! hug

It's the maintaining it that's the thing.  I'm not too fussed if he loses, tbh, as long as he plays a good match and appears to be mentally there.  I just hate it when he doesn't show up and appears to give up.  No less frustrating for him, I guess.
