The BEEB : http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/tennis/13383129.stm
"It was a near faultless performance from Murray, who displayed magnificent athleticism to retrieve seemingly impossible situations."

"I won a lot of points on long rallies where I probably shouldn't have, and at important moments," said Murray, who is 24 on Sunday."

It's so nice to hear him getting some praise for a change, they give him far too much stick.

And he's the birthday boy on Sunday, lets hope he has a rewarding tournay. flowers

There sure were.  As Andy himself said he won a number of points he really shouldn't have.  The comms said he thieved them.  And there are people who say Andy plays boring tennis.  It was enthralling and such fun. Oh why can't it always be like that?!
Keep it up Andy. yay   cmon yeah clap clap:

Ruthie, be happy. Remember this is on red clay - not his favoured surface. Do I hear semi-final versus Djokovic?

It's the maintaining it that's the thing.......No less frustrating for him, I guess.

And therein is the conundrum. maintaining this level, week in week out, and so in the process building up his confidence and consistency, then i believe he will seriously challenge the top three for the top prizes. yay

Totally.  What I'm not sure of is how does he change things in order to become consistent?  Is it just going to magically all slot together one of these days?  As I'm sure you know, whatever is inbuilt in us, or we learn, does not go away overnight.  Unless you are open to change, no change is going to occur - at least this is what I believe.

Everyone is different Elly, as is every circumstance, sometimes the pivitol point when things change cannot be marked or measured and so change appears to happen without concious input. And then there are times when change is linked to a specific moment in time. Like getting a new coach or winning a slam final for example. Only Andy will know when its his moment to embrace change and so solve his puzzle........

I guess.  I'm a very impatient and black and white person.  I forget to see the grey now and then, and I forget not everyone sees things the same way I do.  Thanks for reminding me to get off my hobby horse!  Smile  However, I stick to my guns when I say I do feel Andy could do with a Psych coach - as far as I can see, it's his mental state that lets him down, not his tennis.

Offer up PT!!!

And you are right Elly, it is Andy's mental side that lets him down occasionally, i've always said it and will say it again, Our Andy is arguably one of the most creative and skillful players on the current mens tour. I was watching sky sports yesterday and both commentators put Andy in their top three, of most skillful player on tour. One had him second and the other had him third. So its clearly evident that his talent and racquet skills (how he mixes up his game) are clearly recognised by tennis pundits and others around the world. My only wish is that he now truly believes it. Whistle maybe a psychologist will help, look how it has supposedly helped the Joker, but like i said earlier he has to be ready himself to embrace change.

Totally agree - Andy has to want to get to the bottom of himself, and to allow someone, other than his mother and a bunch of yes men, to show him the way forward. It was all too much too soon.

^ Unfortunately talent doesn't come into it.  You can talent your arse to your elbow - it's results that count.  I don't think anyone on here disputes that Andy has talent.

On the topic of consistency, Murray hasn't been consistent since the 2009 season. Since then it appears he tries to peak his training and fitness in time for the Slams. In 2009 he won more titles than any other player, but made no Slam finals. Hes reached the AO final twice now.
Its a risky tac tic, because surely consistency would allow him to reach slam finals anyway. Either way, what I'm saying is, Murray hasn't been consistent for some time, nor shall I expect him to be for some time, not until he wins that first slam and the pressure is eased off.

Well said! With his 1st slam out of the way the pressure from others but mainly from himself will ease and he'll stop doubting himself, and he can then settle down and focus on playing consistently good tennis.
