Murray through to semis as Cilic withdraws

Quote

I don't think so really.  Last year Roddick had quite a good start to the year, and yet still lost on grass to Sela and then at wimby to Yen Hsun Lu (Andy's conqueror at the Olympics).  2009 was his last peak on grass I feel.  He has not beaten anyone of note this week.  Andy will have far too much for him, as he did in 2009 if nerves had not got the better of him.

2-0 with little fuss I am pretty sure.

Well, you may be correct.  Roddick is getting to be a bit of a dinosaur nowadays.  I was just hoping he could squeeze one more Queens title out Smile

Hmmm .... most probably to do with the length of Roddick's career and the fact that lower earnings were made a decade ago.  You ought to hear Macenroe on THAT topic Very Happy

And Roddick has tended to be one to go for the smaller tournaments, whereas Andy has had those 6 wins at masters level and so on.  Earnings are definitely greater even allowing for inflation and so on.  Will be interesting to see what Andy earns purely in prize money by the end of his career.  Although you only have to look at Roger and Rafa's earnings to see Andy is way behind.  Nothing like winning lots of grand slams for the old bank balance.

Just a little aside.  I think we often neglect the financial aspect of the british wildcards at wimbledon.  For a lot of these players even if they go out in the first round it is the biggest cheque they get all year.  Look at what Ward has earned all year and compare it to what he would get for losing at wimbledon in the first round.  The figures are pretty close!

Oh, I never overlook that little gem.  It is great for those players to get a little extra in the kitty.

Yes, Borg earned $3,655,751 in his entire career. That's ridiculous.

That's officially, of course. There would no doubt have been a few backhanders from organisers. Plus sponsorship.

I won't be able to watch it, I will be catching a sneap peak on my phone to keep an eye on the score.  Hoping for a nice rain delay, as after 3 I will be able to tune in.

Free for sunday for the final, so he better not mess up!!  This could be a really good tournament for Andy.  He hasn't won a title this year and that needs to start changing.

Thanks for that, just thought our Andy looked rather dashing next to Fred Perry, we can only dream, will our wait be over soon?
