No no. He says quite clearly that he feels it's down to how the attacking player is playing. I agree with that, and I'm sure you do.
So, since Murray always plays defensively, it'll be down to how Federer is playing.

Come on, be serious, do you really think Federer meant he let him win, as in he specially did it? It's quite obvious he means it was down to him not playing well that Andy won. Maybe not a nice thing to say, but definitely not what you think!
And see what Andrew (Sir Panda) said above to see what I'm sure he meant - not that Andy's not such a good player (Federer has said enough times - albeit not just after he's lost to him! - that he really respects Andy's play), but that because of Andy's style (i.e. defensive excellence, and waiting for his opponent to mess up)
means
it'll probably come down to Federer playing well or not.
Of course a player defending out of his mind may still beat someone playing brilliant attacking tennis, but most usually not, because however good defensively you are if your opponent just keeps hitting the lines shot after shot, you'll lose.
Of course Fed did not 'let Andy win', but he got beat on many occasions and he's a sore loser - especially to Andy, for whatever reason. Andy would appear to get under his skin and some of his comments come across as churlish and petty. I'd expect him to be the bigger man than that, though.

Elly, that may be the case, but what clementine was saying (and what you agreed with) was absolute tosh!

Nah, Mark, I just feel Federer gets a very rough deal on this site, and that's even though I'm not particularly a fan of him!

Yes he does and that might have something to do with the fact that he clearly doesn't like Murray and he often criticises him unprovoked. There is absolutely no argument there, he does criticise him and that's disrespectful, especially as he doesn't do it to any other player.

I used to be a big fan of Fed. Still like his style of play etc., but he's sadly lacking in humility and respect for his fellow players at times. However, that may be what it takes to become a GOAT.

Ever since he declined from his superhuman position of dominance, he has turned into a sore loser. Funny how it's easy to be polite to your opponent when you always win.

Yup..... I agree. He's not done himself any favours since others started whupping his ass. Hoping Andy can put his gas at a peep in this one.....

Agree with Mark on this. Federer is basically discrediting Andy's wins against him by saying that it's all down to whether he turns up in form or not. Pretty crap thing to say about a fellow pro and especially someone who's got that record against him. Have some respect, Frauderer. Pisses me off that Fed is held up as some sort of gentleman when he's actually far from it. I'd forgotten about all this as he had been pretty quiet since winning Wimbledon, but he's clearly back with a vengeance! Wonder if I should heckle him if it falls perfectly next week and I end up being there for Murray v Fed?

it is a shame that he is responsible for such a crass comment but hardly surprising really, i've lost count of the times (perhaps it's 9)?!! that federer hasn't been able to look andy in the eye at the net after a match that murray wins. federer is the most unsporting player in tennis IMO, which has only came to light in the past year or two when he started losing more regularly....andy really has got under his skin, it was so funny in shanghai last year when murray put him out even though andy had already qualified for the semis, rogers face was a picture that day!
really looking forward to the tournament, i'm a fan of most of the players who are there this year..i'm tipping a murray v djokovic final!

If it is up to Federer whether he wins or not against Andy why does he seem to lose more against Andy than against other players

How is it decided which group opens the tournament on Sunday? Simply group A, or is it the defending champion's group (i.e. Djokovic's)?
