That would make him the best strategist on tour, wouldn't it? Wink

We need to be realistic about this and not be too down if Andy doesn't make it today.  I just hope he takes the game to Nadal as he did in 2008, and as he did when he beat him in Australia, and not go into his shell as he did once Rafa came back at him at Wimby.

I can't see either player winning in straight sets, so I am hoping for 3-1 Andy but only a phenomenal performance will be good enough!  Both players have had soft draws really so it is hard to really gauge their form.  Both Fed and Nole have been playing fantastically well so the first SF will be fascinating to watch.

I just have a feeling Andy has plenty left here in NY in terms of form.  If there is a big improvement here today then he can do it!

Whatever happens, it will be a great day of tennis!!!

That is why it's so interesting and exciting to watch Andy play different players.

His temperement is much improved though Aileen, dont you aggree? No real outburst really like we used to see. A changed man really.
I do agree, but there's still room for improvement - something I hope will come with growing maturity.  One positive sign, though, is that he's stopped hitting himself with his racquet, sometimes hard enough to draw blood, and that sort of self-flagellation was quite worrying.

I feel Andy does need to show some emotion, because that is who is, what he did yesterday and has been doing lately is he gets over it, channels it and gets on with the next point, which is what we saw yesterday. I'm glad he shows emotion as it shows he cares.I'm absolutely sick of the continuing harping on this subject. I often wonder if I have been following the same match as I didn't see him looking up to his team that often. He and his team know what helps him, not us.
Showing emotion is one thing if it fires him up.  I've no problems with fist-pumps or shouts of "focus!", or even the occasional swear word, but throwing his toys out of the pram when things go wrong is quite another.  Yes I agree that he's getting back on track a bit more quickly these days but these lapses are still causing him to lose concentration and, as a result, valuable points.  Also showing his frustration is a gift to experienced opponents who will make full use of the fact and try to unsettle him further.

You say he and his team know what helps him.  On what do you base that assumption, given the fact that when he starts shouting at them - well I've seen cheerier faces at a funeral?  The golden rule in tennis, as any expert will tell you, is that players have to learn to take full responsibility for their actions on court. They're completely on their own out there, so sounding off at his team, or anyone else, only going to be counter-productive.

Any idea what time Andy is due to play please ? Would it be possible to have the time, day etc at the top of the home page ? I have requested this before & it happens for a day or two only. It is really so useful. Thanks.

Aileen you and I are never going to agree on this, you see it one way and I another. However I do get annoyed when some silly statements are made by some commentators. Also I haven't seen Andy throwing out his toys, which if he was going to surely it would have been yesterday when he was facing such a huge server and was having to hang in and try and protect his service game, and when possible find a way to break Isner. Throwing his cap down and bending over was not throwing his toys out, but as I said earlier we see this totally different. So I am certainly not going to justify my statement re Andy and his team to you.

He's due to play not before 7.45pm BST Rosie.
I'm not sure Andy is shouting AT his team Aileen so much as berating himself and he looks to them because they are the people he knows and loves.  As Andre Agassi said in his autobiography it's very lonely on a tennis court and that's why players talk to themselves so much.
I think Andy played really well against Big John.  OK his level dipped in the third set but then John's rose and he really took it to Andy.  Fleming said at one point that Andy's winner-unforced error ratio was almost 'astounding' and while I'm not sure what his overall 1st serve percentage was in the end it was up in the 70s in 1st set I think. Which is pretty phenomenal.  And the way he dealt with the t-b.  He'll have known Isner's recent t-b record and also the implications of going to a 5th set. But he was fearless and focused.

It all depends on the match before him, so it would be an approximation.  I guess it's easier to put a start time down when he's 1st on court.
