Looking for another argument with me already, Julia? Go have some comfort food, that's the way to deal with your current situation Wink

Get over it Mark, you love to be sour over men that girls drool over. :P

Verdasco IS playing the tennis of his life, but today he wasn't as impressive as he was against Stepanek or in the earlier rounds.

His FH and serve were phenomenal, thought his BH was good as well, Andy tried to break it down but it didn't happen.

It was a poor match with some bright spots, I have never enjoyed watching a Murray/Verdasco encounter, they are always tense.

It's certainly great tennis in comparison to this time last year where he lost in Rnd 2 in something like 7 tournaments in a row but I feel there's a capacity to develop his game, certainly strengthening the mental side. Anyways we'll see, a win over Murray does not make him a champion. Smile

Quote of the day goes to the BBC's Andrew Castle regarding the greater significance of today's match for Andy's future:

"...a disappointing loss, no more than that..."

'Nuff said! Very Happy

Back home now...

Julia, I never really meant to suggest that Verdasco was literally playing the best he has ever done against Murray but I was more intending to get at how generally this tournament he is playing some of his best tennis of his career and I don't think Murray's match was the exception.

Before I read everyone else’s comments I’m going to first post my thoughts. Smile

Verdasco was the better player on the day and on that basis deserved to win. He took his chances in the fifth; served very impressively forcing Andy (to some extent) to play more defensively and therefore he played more aggressively.

I’m sure Andy’s played a worse match in the last few years than this morning’s match as a whole but what was that second set about!!  confused A part from the game he got he was terrible.

Glad Andy’s taking defeat on the chin and not giving any excuses. After all it is just another step on the learning curve on the way to becoming a GS Champion. Very Happy He’ll inevitably be more prepared in the future for matches like this in Grand Slams.

I’m actually glad I got up at 5am to watch it. lol Very Happy

At least Andy can have a break from that ridiculous sun, Nando said after the match that he was going to stick himself in the fridge for a few days and he's Spanish! nervous

Quote
Q. What now? This tournament has always been dark horses going to the final. Everything is open for you now?

FERNANDO VERDASCO: I hope. I just want now to enjoy my victory of today. Is like ATP victory the biggest one in my career for me because be in quarterfinal of Grand Slam for first time and also beating one player like Andy Murray. He's, you know, so big. And that's help me even more for my confidence, to see that I am playing really good and I can be there, no? I can be in the top.

Apparently Verdasco's camp were coaching him throughout the match and giving Andy real abuse when he was down there end.  Rolling Eyes no

Well folks read carefully now. Verdasco's camp was sitting to the right of us and coached him throughout the whole match. They also insulted Andy throughout when he was down their end. Andy did give them a stare at one stage but the only words I can repeat on a family forum is that they kept telling Andy he was a woman. There was lots of foul mouthed insults as you can imagine. My limited Spanish was good enough to pick this up but a woman 2 seats down was teling her friend what they were saying and she told me it was disgusting.
Also when Ellen from the forum and her friend Erica shouted "come on Andy" one of Verdasco's entourage mimicked "we love you Andy". How professional, they lacked any class whatsoever.
