Honest answers there from Andy Nope, not the end of the world and has other chances to win a GS - we would have liked it to have been this one, but I'm patient!

The most upsetting thing about Murray's loss today is Federer will be feeling smug after he gave these comments the other day:
I don't know how fit Murray is.
I'll take him on any day in a five-setter.
He's younger so he's probably not so experienced, you know.
In the end it becomes very mental, and I know that this is where my biggest strengths always come into play.
That's why I'm always going to favour myself in a fifth set.

It is fair to say this was close to a disaster when you consider that he was favourite to win the event.

I agree with Sir Panda. Murrays lack of aggression and loss of concentration ended up with him throwing this away. It was a flashback to andy at last years AO. Very disappointing performance from Andy after all the preperation he has done. He has to get back to Britain now asap and focus on a big hard court season ranking points wise and hope novak gets stopped by Roddick.
Illness had nothing to do with that loss for me. He may not have been 100% but as you saw in the 1st and 3rd set, when he played his shots and focused a bit more, he was too strong for FV.

I wouldnt go as far as disater Mark but its not far off it. It will raise more questions among the media and tennis world whether Andy can handle the pressure. For this AO to be successful, he had to get to the semis and live up to his ranking. Winning this AO was never important for me neither is winning any GS this year, he has to be consistent in his performances and results to claim his place amongst the big boys and quite frankly a defeat to FV is not good enough.

So Andy lost because of the pressure of being favourite? The mind boggles. I'll just accept that he lost because he wasn't good enough today - when you play tennis, you are only as good as your last game are you not?

Murray can handle the pressure just fine. He was due a bad day and that was today... simple as that.

Having read his post match comments - he obviously had a bad day at the office and he's feeling it as much as we are. He's not making any excuses - Verdasco outplayed him and that's that. He will bounce back. I suppose I expected him to win through this one, but wasn't sure about either Tsonga or Nadal. Tsonga is playing magnificent tennis against Blake at the moment and Andy would have had to play his total best to get past him. I still think he has the talent to win a GS. The Andy we have come to know over the past few months is real and he will remain a force to be reckoned with. Apparently Nadal and Fed were watching the match together in the players' lounge (Mat Willander saw them) He is still the one no-one wants to play.
