Andy Murray has revealed that he wants to stage an ATP Tour event in Scotland once he's at the latter stages of his career.

I've spoken to a few people about it. I think if you're going to do it you make sure you do it well. If I was to do something like that I would want to make sure I'm really involved in it.

You need to make sure you've got the time and the right people behind it. It is something that would definitely interest me [especially] when I am a bit older, when I am playing maybe fewer tournaments than I am now and maybe not doing as much training.

I think all the players would love to put on a tournament. They obviously know what the players need. The players just like to be near restaurants, have enough practice courts and have the hotel close to the courts, and that's it.

I think sometimes it's easy for tournaments to try and overcomplicate things, to try to outdo the other ones and make it a little bit more fancy, but players are pretty simple.

In 1997, Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski helped secure Britain an ATP Tour event that was first hosted in Battersea Park and then the Docklands. After a three-year run, it ended amid complaints from players about its unsuitability.

I'm not sure what to make of this, tbh.  Why would he be thinking about this right now?

Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

A worthy idea, but -

"The players just like to be near restaurants, have enough practice courts and have the hotel close to the courts, and that's it".

As the only suitable venue in Scotland for the moment would seem to be Glasgow's Braehead Arena (seating capacity 2,700), it would appear from its current website that it wouldn't fulfil the above requirements.  Good advertised hotels and restaurants are 3-4 miles away ... and practice courts?

But we're looking several years down the line and maybe by then his Mum's plans for a tennis centre near Stirling will have come to fruition, although would there be easily accessible eateries and accommodation to go with it?

So, meantime, let Andy enjoy his youthfully enthusiastic dreams.

Andy's understanding of the game would make him ideal as a potential tennis pundit.

Though Andrew Castle may need to be on stand-by with the tweezers to make Andy's voice actually change tone once in a while.
