He seems a lot more positive today generally, I think he has come to terms with the ankle and so on, and it is obviously pretty fine. A pretty routine win really, and I would expect the same tomorrow. The only time Cilic beat Andy was when he had a sprained wrist, otherwise while the odd set has been dropped, Andy has always been too consistent. Cilic has big serve, and heavy strokes, but nowhere near consistent enough really. I would like to see Andy step it up a little.
What I really wanted to comment on was Andy's serve, which appears much improved. I did notice in Paris the first serve percentage was way up, and has been good here this week also. If he can serve those sorts of numbers then that will be absolutely huge really. Andy has won masters series events before serving under 50, but in the slam finals he has played it really has been the serve where he has lost it. He needs to maintain it as it could be crucial, as thing will be a bit faster at Wimby. I think it is more the fact it has been cold, rainy, windy. The courts need some sun and good weather, and things will quicken up a bit.
Can't see Nadal beating Tsonga btw tomorrow. Ole Radek nearly had his number earlier. Rafa needs to rest up because we all know when it comes to tail end of wimby he will be back to his best.
Good luck Andy tomorrow!
I'm inclined to agree with you SG, but Cilic cant be discounted too quickly. So Mr Magic needs to make an appearance, early
. When Andy takes control and dictates, it sends strong vibes to lower ranking opponents, then they know if it's the real Andy Murray
they're playing, or, that imposter
that sometimes turns up.
Andy seems in good spirts (always a good omen)and jokingly said, he grimaces after every point, ankle or no ankle. Absolutely serving better, essential on this green stuff!
Im not sure what to predict about Rafa vs Tsonga. Rafa is tenatious as we know, but losing his grip a little this week. Yes, impressive play by Radek, but he faded away completely in the 3rd.
