Murray wins Indian Wells opener

Quote

Andy Murray strolled past Greece's Vasilis Mazarakis 6-2 6-1 in the first round of the Pacific Life Open Masters Series event in Indian Wells.

The Scot, 18, will next face Russia's fifth seed Nikolay Davydenko, who has a bye in California.

Rain delayed the start of the match but Britain's new number one needed only 47 minutes to defeat the qualifier.

Murray was quick to capitalise on each of his three break points in the first set, and though Mazarakis managed a break of his own in the second, the Scot stormed home by winning 24 of the 33 points played.

What an unfortunate draw. Davydenko is a solid player. Good luck Andy!
