Murray withdraws from Davis Cup tie « on: March 02, 2009, 09:54 AM »

Andy Murray has withdrawn from this week's Davis Cup tie against Ukraine due to a virus.

Obviously, I'm very disappointed that I won't be playing in Glasgow this week, but the doctor has told me that I need complete rest for at least seven days, and I have to respect that.

I hoped that pulling out of Dubai when I did would give me enough time to recover, but this virus has hit me harder than any illness I've had before and I still feel terrible.

Missing out on a home tie is tough for me, but more than anything I'm sorry for all the people making the journey who had hoped to see me play in the team. The support we get is always amazing, and I know people have to make sacrifices to give us that.

But Davis Cup is a team game, and the fans still have a massive role to play.

John has picked a young squad who all fought hard in the play-offs and  proved how much they want to represent their country. If they can take that form and desire onto the match court in Braehead - in front of an amazing crowd - we have a good chance of winning the tie.

This tie should still be fairly interesting given the team we have Smile

I hope Andy doesn't have a similar virus to what Federer has nervous

It would just be sod's law if he did - as he's looking to capture that first slam, his chances are decimated by illness.

Hopefully it's just a general virus though and nothing that a week or so of rest won't sort out. He's got about a week before he needs to fly out to California, so hopefully that will be enough.

We'll be cheering on Brits because I'm sure its Britains Davis Cup Team, not the English Davis Cup Team!

And I guess you love cheering on a Scot as well then since you're on his fan site.

I'm hoping Andy will be able to put in an appearance at least, so that the fans actually see him there.

I know I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

Nice, authentic touch - going down with the 'virus' halfway through the Dubai tourney.

Saying that, I don't blame him. I wouldn't want to represent chavvy England either.

I don't mind cheering on the Englishmen, Ross and Chris are pretty hot, even if they are young enough to be my sons, a girl can dream though.  Whistle

It's unlikely, since he'll presumably be in bed.

I don't see why you would refer to the GB team as England.

Also, why on earth do you think he's faking? The tie is in Glasgow. That's the only thing that bothers me and I'm certain that it must bother Andy. The Scottish fans probably won't turn up next time.

I doubt it. Pretty sure he'll be up and about. It's the whole playing competitive tennis for 4 hours that's against doctor's orders.

I don't expect to see him, Doctors have told him to have complete rest, not jump on another plane and sit for hours on end listening to deafening screams and bloody hooters going off in your ear.  Stay in bed Andy, relax, jump on the Wii or Playstation and be ready for the Masters instead.  w00t
