Can't say I am really surprised.

I was more suprised when he said he was going to play it! Wonder if the wrist injury is real?

That's very sad.  The right wrist is the one that came to grief earlier in his career while he was with BG.  Let's hope it's nothing serious and that he doesn't end up having to have surgery like del Potro, Agassi et al - several months out of the game, if it required surgery.  Delpo has been out of it for the better part of 12 months.  Long way back.

#5 for IW then.

He should be #4 at Wimbledon thanks to the grass bonus but he really needs to end Miami as #4 if he's going to be seeded #4 at the USO and not need to make a Wimbledon final/burn out winning an MS.

Lets see how soon he goes to Miami, he talked about it at the last interview in Rotterdam and was more animated about that than Dubai thought then this may happen. I think if the wrist injury was serious he would say so.

Me too, so this news comes as no surprise.  Thought opening the Dubai thread was a bit premature. Rolling Eyes

Andy did make a reference to some pain in his wrist in Rotterdam but played it down saying that a few niggles were not unusual following GSs.

He seemed pretty certain about Dubai after his doubles loss with Jamie, though, so perhaps this withdrawal could be more precautionary than anything serious - we hope.  Also it's a good reason (and I mean reason, not excuse) for him to take the break he talked about after the AO.

Not necessarily.  Andy does tend to keep things like this close to his chest until he is absolutely forced to say something - remember the wrist injury at the 2009 USO?  We didn't hear about that until the DC tie came along.  Same thing with the virus that felled him at Beijing last year which had apparently been bothering him, again since the USO.

I seem to recall that Agassi's wrist problem was a long-standing one and that Del Potro seriously aggravated his injury in an accident during training, so fingers crossed.

He did seem very certain, which to me was a shock lol, really was expecting something like this. I question how bad the wrist injury can be purely because he played doubles after he first commented on his wrist hurting a little bit in the singles, so fingers crossed it isn't that bad... unless hes just aggrevated it more. Would he have been really determined to help his brother and risked injury?

I suspect he may have aggravated it a bit more, but I'd hope that if there had been any question about it being serious he wouldn't have played in the doubles, nor would Jamie have expected him to.

Do hope this is a "diplomatic" wrist injury and nothing serious Frown

Always feel a tad disappointed when there's no Andy to watch at tennis tournies.  Thank goodness for dvd's and video (cuirrently working my way through Davis Cup tennis from 2007 - Tim's finale).

You take care of yourself Andy and look forward to seeing you on a court soon hug

Glad he has taken some timeout.  He said recently that he was planning on playing more doubles with Jamie this year so imo the rest and relaxation should be just what is needed at this time.  Look forward to seeing Andy in March.

Of course I'm disappointed not to see Andy play in Dubai, but if he has a slight niggle with his wrist it's best he take precaution, better safe than sorry. I hope it's nothing more and also he need a bit of a rest. So if all is well we will see him at IW. Missing you already Andy!! tender

Pleased about this. I do NOT want to see a repeat of his Rotterdam performance. That was tragic.
