Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

It seems that he learns from a very young age to take care of his body and also his mental state. There is absolutelly no point to go overboard when you have a ten year career in front of you. Nadal found out the hard way, after pounding his body week in week out for 5 years.
Andy's fitness trainer, when he was in Barcelona as a teenager, instilled into him that taking care of his body and his mind is of paramount importance if he wants a long and successful career. Glad to see he's following that advice.
As for it being a last-minute decision, I think that's probably typical of Andy, but could news of Del Potro's prolonged absence have finally tipped the balance?

I'm quite excited. I'm sensing a huge focus on the bigger picture here. For me, Murray has gone beyond 'having' to win matches and 'having' to play just to stay with the above ranked. I smell something differrent approaching. I think this just may be about him giving the best he can to fulfill his potential. He and his team are getting to know what works for hiim. If he doesn't pull it off..... hard lines.... how he tried. If he does..... we'll all be celebrating.

Disappointed that I won't get to see some Andy action this week, but Andy obviously needs to do what's best for him, and it's also good for my sleep pattern

Totally.....
So hope this is a good move - got to believe in him and his team to know what they're doing.

I think you could be right Elly. It's a gamble, but he's obviously sure enough in his own mind to be prepared to take it. We have to have faith ...

It's seeming that way. I think he and his team know that he has to make this a breakthrough year, or else he's lost the momentum.

Andy reckons he'll play his best tennis between the ages of 23 and 26. I truly hope so but agree that success this year will be extremely crucial for his progress - and a real nailbiter for us fans!

Of course Murray's priority is to keep his body in as good a shape as possible, but what concerns me is that the AO has apprently left him feeling so drained. If this is the case this early in the season, it doesn't look good, especially as "tiredness" seemed to be an ongoing problem last year.

Won't he get a zero pointer as he has pulled out of the tournament too close to the final deadline? I remember that a couple of years ago he carried one after pulling out of the Washington tournament at short notice.
Can someone please reassure me?? :-)

That is true, except it was Indianapolis and not Washington. The rules have since changed somewhat when the tour was rebranded at the start of last year.

It was Indianapolis? I'm getting forgetful in my old age. So will he be penalised or won't he?

Good points there Elly. He can be choosy within the rules and Federer seems to get by without many long lasting injuries. The way Fed plays (so the 'experts' say) has a lot to do with this - maybe Andy has picked up a few pointers from Fed - I grudgingly admit he couldn't have a better example!

^ Yes, I agree. And maybe it's a little unfair to think that this year may be make or break. At the end of the day, he's still very young and has done so well. Hopefully, this year will bring something extra in terms of GS events, though. Just to see him moving in the right direction would be great. I feel he's been a little stagnant of late. It's like he's verging on moving forward, but it's not quite coming together.

I know what you mean Elly, he made a massive improvement at the start of last year, and seemed unstoppable going into Wimbledon, but not mch has changed since. It's not that he came back weaker after Christmas, more just the same, and people were maybe hoping he would come back better....
I feel like there's one little push more he can do, and once he manages that he will win a grand slam. Also I think that his best chance is at Wimbledon because he managed to get through all the way to nearly winning the third set in the AO, and I reckon that he'd definately have taken that 3rd set if he was at home with a majority crowd, and who knows what could have happened if he had taken it. And I don't think he will be able to best Fed in a 3 set final, ever. It's a 5 set thriller, or not at all in my eyes.
