UPDATE: After Tim Henman's pull out from the Thailand Open, Andy Murray has been awarded a wildcard to the event. Therefor it's unlikely both Murray and Federer will play in Sunday's reverse singles as they are probably preparing to fly to Bangkok for the start of the tournament there next week.

Andy Murray and Greg Rusedski lost the chance for Great Britain to join the elite in the World Group by failing to win the needed Davis Cup doubles match against Roger Federer and Yves Allegro.

Andy and Greg put in a feisty performance with Murray showing once more signs of brilliance. The pair managed to make Federer look surprisingly less than perfect when taking the second set 6-2 but that was to be the only set won by Team GB in the doubles and the whole tie - Federer and Allegro took the match 7-5 2-6 7-6 6-2.

The result gave Switzerland an unassailable 3-0 lead in the best-of-five play-off tie.

It leaves Britain consigned to another season in the Euro-African zone.

I'm pleased to see Andy has received a wild card for the Thai Open. It's a relief that he doesn't have to go through qualifying. This is where he can pick up the more generous vital points he needs.

Yeah, and hopefully he won't have to play as many challengers that he was scheduled for, I don't like the idea of him playing challenger events now.
