I think most people know only too well that Andy is inconsistent and that it's this which is one of the reasons he hasn't won a Slam yet.  One of the more sensible things Federer ever said was "A player can play great in one match in a tournament - but to succeed he has to play great for the whole tournament."

^^^ Actually Andy has on a number of occasions particularly at the AO played unbelievably well for 5 sometimes 6 successive matches, more than many slam winners of recent, but when it mattered most ie when his great tennis actually got him to a final.
The A game dissapeared and we got the Z version instead.
I'm all of the opinion that he needs to stop being so careful and clever and just bash his opponent over the head at that point.
Go out all guns blazing and see what he can get. Or he will probably get nada, because that is what his opponent will do.

berdych served well but his return game was poor although not as bad as Murrays of course. he was very good but hardly flawless, although he never is. He also gifted Murray quite a few points. He was better in Paris i think.

I think the best I've seen Berdych play was at Wimbledon 2010 - where he beat Federer and then Djokovic in back-to-back matches. He was really impressive then.

Its no great shame to lose to a great player like Berdych its just the way he lost that was a little troubling.

Yes it wasn't that good to watch at times. It seems that whenever he's not moving well for whatever reason he finds it hard to keep emotional control. Hope he can work on this in the coming months as it's bound to give his opponents confidence when they see that.

I do think Andy was a bit wary today on the clay. He did not play well and I agree he should have been more aggressive. But we were not in his shoes and the constant prattle and the way he is treated at times is beyond belief. Let him get on with it I am sure he does not go out to lose matches it happens. After all this was his first clay tournament,

Thank you LB.  This is about the most sensible post I've read on this thread

Also I've just listened to an interview with Djokovic about his SF tomorrow and, whilst I expect him to win, he is most certainly not under-estimating Berdych, who he describes as "a very powerful player".

Just watched it on PVR.
Wish I hadn't.
Andy dug a trench for himself 6 feet behind the baseline and couldn't get out.
My dislike for Berdych is mounting in maniacal proportions.
