Andy Murray made his way into the second round at Doha after easing past Spain's Albert Montanes, 6-2 6-4.
The Scot broke Montanes twice to gain a 5-1 lead and took the first set on his fifth set point after saving four break points.
Montanes was broken in his first two service games of the second set allowing Murray to hold serve 4-0 up. Montanes then broke back and won three games in a row but Murray served out to win.
Murray will now face Philipp Petzschner of Germany in the second round on Wednesday.
