Its not so much as flu but rather the most painful sore throat known to man! I woke me up at 4am and I was crying it was so painful  Nothing I do takes the pain away and it isn't getting any better. I have a massive bump sticking out of my neck where it hurts on one side, now the other side is starting to grow its own little one My doctor suggested gargling salt water which made it so much more painful. I'm taking nurofen tablets, Beechams all in one, throat numbing spray, drinking hot and cold ribenna ... I don't know what else to do!!  |

Friend of mine ended up in hospital on a drip with a throat infection once - get it checked out. |

Mmm - if it keeps getting worse you should still go back - they are reticent to hand out antibiotics to everyone with a cold but if it keeps getting more and more painful then don't be shy. In the meantime, you can get over the counter sprays from the pharmacist that really help - I had a throat infection a coulpe of years ago that meant i could only just swallow but the spray helped to reduce the swelling.
Also - any excuse to eat icecream is a good one...

The spray isn't too good because there is always one bit I miss and its still hurts to swallow when its slightly numb.

I'm out of ideas - sounds like methadone is the way to go... When did you see your GP? if it was more than a day or two ago it might be worth going back . |

It was yesterday morning. He said if it wasn't better by Thursday he'd give me antibotics, but I just rang up in the hope I might get them tomorrow because I can't go on suffering when theres no need.

We'll be sat far back-ish I'm guessing I know whats coming anyway because I've seen it in Aberdeen already  It'll be twice as funny. Not so funny if I'm still ill. And can you not say "raincoat" given recent conversations I can't help think you are talking about something else  |
