Well after a couple of hours hanging out in the sun the smell seems to have gone from the clothes.
Now for the washing machine! Have put in some baking soda and white vinegar plus a nice scented washing powder and chucked a bleach tablet into the drum and set it going on the hottest water setting. Lets hope this doesn't destroy it completely!

I know I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

Alright lets give it a try then! Thanks, will let you know the (hopefully not disastrous) results.
The wife says white vinegar on a long boil wash.

Ok well the machine still does have a slight smell of it but it's much much less - it stunk out the whole room when opened before. So maybe I'll leave the door open to air it out for the rest of the day and then do the same process again tomorrow then it should hopefully be fine.

We had a skunk which skulked (or skunked) about outside our house for a few years to the point where my hubby killed it with his bare hands a couple of years ago..(he feels bad about it to this day... )
The smell was so atrocious.. it permeated everything in our house and our neighbours.
It was so bad that our neighbour's kids were sent home from school the next day because they stank so bad.
True story..
So the moral of the story is... if you are ever sprayed by a skunk, make sure you douse yourself with tomato juice.
And don't go to school..
There's no better excuse..

Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

White vinegar can be used for all sorts of things, not least as a multi-purpose cleaner and stain remover (it works on clothes as well) and is much cheaper to buy than all the fancy-pants stuff which claims to do the same thing. You can get it in supermarkets in a spray form if you want. The mild odour soon disappears and it isn't harmful to children or pets. It also has health uses as well, such relieving the pain of bee stings.

I use white vinegar all the time for lots of things around the house, just like my mother used to......i.e cleaning windows, mirrors ect. and descaling the kettle. It's also great for cleaning taps as it's gentler and keeps them free from limescale. I reckon it's the best value for money thing you can buy!
