So as you may be able to work out by my username, which is linked to my middle name (let's see if anyone can work that out), I'm a fantasy novel fan.

Of late, I've been reading George RR Martin, Robin Hobbs, Patrick Rothfuss, Brandon Sanderson and a few others, mostly modern fantasy now as I find Tolkien, Eddings, Gemmell and Moorcock all a bit basic now - great at the time, but dated.

I was looking for something new to read and found a cracking blog which seemed to find a lot of what I enjoyed similarly exciting - at the very top of the blog, rated as the best read, was a series called Earthsea by Ursula LeGuin.

I just ain't enjoying it at all.

I know I don't have the talent to write, as much as I'm working (very slowly) on a novel just now, and know that most of what's out there is miles better than I could come up with, but so much about this I'm reading and thinking "wow, I could have wrote this".

That's not a great sign! Very Happy

OK Alex....you've got me totally stumped!  You say you don't have the talent to write, but good on you for trying! I'm not really 'into' the fantasy stuff myself, but I know many people are. My brother in law is a huge fan! You could try posting a bit of your novel on here and see what reception it gets! You may find you're better than you think! Very Happy

I can't imagine it being Aragorn, so I'll guess at Bree, which Aragorn was the Strider of.

You'd have been right sticking with Aragorn.
